Point Break (2015)

Cringe worthy.

Surfing's the source, it'll change your life, swear to god.

Looks as awful as the Robocop remake.

There was just no need to call this point break and trample over the original.

In fact I think it might work against them, I would be far more likely to watch it if they hadn't referenced the original.

Why do they have to keep doing reboots? Are they no longer able to think of new ideas?!

That haven't been able to come up with new ideas for the better part of 15 years. Hence the never ending churning out of boring comic book adaptions. And of course there's allegedly Akira and Ghost In The Shell adaptations in the works. Both of which will be terrible.

Oh dear. That looks like a colossal turd in the making. I think I need to go watch the original again and forget anyone ever mentioned the word 'reboot' :p

That looks alright to me. I like the introduction of Wingsuits instead of surfing. Will watch.

Total Recall was sacred, and I would like to throttle the person responsible for the remake, but Point Break? They can remake that to oblivion for all I care.

cringe, it will be bad just like the Wall Street remake was bad... somehow they even managed to put a bike chase in Wall Street 2....

There are plenty of new ideas, though the best ones involve taking risks. They're businesses they own the rights to certain movies and doing a remake using an established title, though it isn't necessarily going to be a huge sucess, is a pretty safe way to make some money.

From a business perspective it probably makes sense to have a range of safe movies with no real creativity/artistic value alongside the big projects they'll invest in for potential Oscar sucess and the various lower budget ones that are a bit risky.

I would like to judge this by getting a teenager/early 20s who hasn't seen the original to watch them both and tell us which they preferred

would be easy to write this off being a fan of the original, but I did see it when I was 15 or something and you suck most things up at that age

TBH, the original doesn't stand the test of time very well unless viewed through "80's kitsch" glasses. I think those of us who saw it the first time around are romanticising it a bit. It's not like either Reeves or Swayze are great actors, but they have charisma on screen, and the whole surfer/outlaw vibe works well.

The big mistake with the new film is marketing it under the Point Break name which bring unwanted comparisons with a fondly remembered film.
