The fact you even ask this shows me that you have likely never been in any actual threatening situations. Lets put this in Playskool mode and look at the facts:
- Three guys
- Rough looking skinhead types
- they have already displayed some aggressiveness by spitting on you and crossing into your personal space
...at what point would the brain not engage and think "S***, they look like trouble"? In addition, they would be pretty much exuding an aura of threat and menace, those instinctual things you pick up on (manner, voice tones and body language) in situations like that. Your brain does it all (or should do) for you in about 0.2 seconds. It's the reason i'm still in one piece on more than one occasion.
He is not a policeman, has no authority that any scum worth their salt would respect, and has no business catching up with and confronting 3 obviously aggressive meatheads who have already taken the first move. Regardless of your opinions of what does and doesn't happen "normally", it was foolish bravado, pure and simple, and he sadly came a cropper as a result.
Please, your condescension is not required.
I have been in plenty of threatening situations thanks, and actually elements of my job involve telling people like the above, where necessary, that what they are doing is not good enough. So yes I take a lot of flack because nobody likes to be told "you have done a **** job".
Has it been confirmed whether the man spat on the TW or the floor?
The TW has got the authority to issue a fine to the individual who spat. The fact that the individual does not respect that authority is not an excuse for ignoring bad behaviour. If we took that approach in life we would have anarchy.
I also note with interest that after kicking the TW the men did not set about him as you would normally expect from 'their type' if they were intending on assaulting someone. Maybe his companions were just as surprised by it as the warden was? Indeed the one man just stands there with a spaced out look on his face.
Fair play to the TW, he stood up for himself and tried to do his job. He challenged unacceptable behaviour which is something more of us should be doing. Foolish bravado? No I don't think so. An element of naivety maybe, but not bravado.
My point was, and still is, that the TW cannot have the blame laid at his feet for the actions of the individual that kicked him. I have heard this logic many times before, but it never stands up.
Agreed, if the TW had not pursued the issue he would
probably not have come to harm, but pursuing the issue (which he was well within his rights to do) is not an excuse to blame him for being kicked in the face. How about we blame the man who kicked him, or are we now saying its OK to be a threatening and violent person because if you go around assaulting people, its everyone elses fault for calling you out on it? Hmm,
slightly spurious logic in my opinion.
@Haggisman
No I would not try and tackle a gunman. Not without a gun of my own (and my gun would have to be bigger than his gun)
Good news on leaving Walsall - good luck with wherever you are heading to.
Traffic wardens are scum and they know full well they are doing a job the public despise them for yet do it anyway, they deserve anything they get.
I really don't get that mentality. Its like calling the Police scum for arresting you for breaking the law. I have no issues with TW's and I certainly don't despise them. In fact I have found them to be quite amenable if you treat them with a bit of common courtesy. If you go off and treat them like 'scum' then that may be the cause of your problem.
Or maybe next time, don't park where you shouldn't? Or do you fall into the category of wanting to park where you like and then whining when you get a ticket from the 'scumbag' TW who is letting you know that no it is not OK to go around doing as you please? How dare they!!
Cheers
