Hello,

I managed to score an SP30 in June 2006...

Am I right in thinking that next year they will no longer affect my insurance? as it will renew in July...if memory serves its after 3 years they stop affecting insurance, after 4 years you can pay to have them taken off your paper counterpart and after 5 years they come off completely?

Or am I talking out of my arse as per normal standards?

Ta :)

How long endorsements stay on your driving licence

An endorsement must stay on your driving licence for the following periods of time:

Eleven years from date of conviction

If the offence is:

* drinking or drugs and driving - shown on the licence as DR10, DR20, DR30 and DR80
* causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drink or drugs – shown on the licence as CD40, CD50 and CD60
* causing death by careless driving, then failing to provide a specimen for analysis – shown on the licence as CD70

Example: Date of conviction is 3 December 2002 - the endorsement must stay on the licence until 3 December 2013.

Four years from the date of conviction

If the offence is for:

* reckless/dangerous driving - shown on the licence as DD40, DD60 and DD80
* offences resulting in disqualification
* disqualified from holding a full driving licence until a driving test has been passed

Example: Date of conviction is 28 May 2004 – the endorsement must stay on the licence until 28 May 2008.

Four years from the date of offence

In all other cases.

Example: Date of offence 10 June 2005 – the endorsement must stay on the licence until 10 June 2009.

Just for the sake of it, I'm going to say it's as normal, talking out your bum. :p

Can't remember the times, but I'm sure if you search on here you could find it. ;)

According to the goverment website, the points stay on my license for 4 years. BUT I'm sure I read somewhere that it stops affecting insurance after 3?

I'm with this one.

I always thought it was the other way round points lasted on your insurance for 1 year longer than they stay on your licence?

Load of rubbish I'm afraid - its up to the insurer how long it affects you. Most ask for claims and convictions in the last 5 years.

Fair enough. Thanks! :)

I think you maybe referring to how long the points are visible on your licence to the DVLA, with respect to totting them up - which is 3 years. But they remain on your licence for 4. As already stated most insurers will ask for the previous 5 years of convictions.

Yeah I know, I was just providing as useful information :p

You could just directline it with a 05 SP30 and renewal and compare to a non SP30.

>3 years does not count anymore to your "allowance"
>4 years can be removed from licence
>x (usually 5) years does not need to be declared to insurance
