I've only ever seen the one posted above just before traffic lights.

Never as a speed camera - are you sure they're werent traffic lights there once and they just decided to leave it up as a decoy speed camera?

I'm fairly sure they dont take your speed - they get activated using a feed from the traffic light control box which uses a radar to detect cars passing through whilst active.

They must be able to use them as speed cameras as well, the one I was referring to was on a road with no traffic lights. It had the painted lines on the road too.

That's the style they have in Nottingham and around here. I never thought they could capture speed, I like to go through them as quickly as possible if I'm too close to stop (while there still on green this is). The amber lights on all traffic lights around Nottingham seem to be so much quicker than here, barely two seconds of amber before it changes, doesn't give you much time to stop if you're near the light.

I've also found one redlight camera in Nottingham always changes to red as I approach the line, they must have it in for me .
