I was wondering if anyone knew much about this software as I am trying to recover some information off a drive that is encrypted which blue screened.

I was wondering if it is possible to use another computer with the same software and some how unencrypt the software using that computer.

If you have a normal computer with pointsec on it then you can go into control options and uninstall the pointsec if you have the correct level of access which I do.

When you do this it gives you the option of selecting the drive that is to be uninstalled. Is it possible to hook up the faulty drive and uninstall pointsec in this way or is it lost for good?

Thanks

We used to do this. The build guys would upload a file to the network after the laptops were encrypted (some kinda signature file) and then if we ever had failing laptops drives or BSODs, we'd have to boot from a CD, generate codes on 2 keyfobs with usernames and passwords and enter the responses into the laptop. It would then (taking about a hour) strip the encryption off. If there was damage to the drive that caused the BSOD then a large chuk around that damage would not decrypt properly, but we got the users data off most of the time.

So if the computer was BSOD'ing did you remove the hard drive and then try and use another computer to recover it?

At our work, we have all the Pointsec "decrypt" files stored on a server, we then use the Pointsec Recovery Utility which puts this file onto a Floppy drive. Boot from floppy, it will decrypt the HDD (need sysadmin logon).
