the fact that this mindset even exists in immigrants is, for me, enough to provoke that kind of reaction

they are privaliged even to be in our country

Fair enough and i dont blame you for the way you feel but surely you cant blame all of them...just the ones who are of this mindset. As for them taking your job as a joiner...perhaps you should look at being more competitive price wise??. But sometimes companies/people will hire them because they work hard and are generally cheaper than say someone who is british. I know its not fair, nothing in life is fair is it though??.

I have the same problem with the company i work for...software development and our programmers are all indians from India. We have offices there and tbh ive never been happy with their work although they do work very hard, which i give them credit for. But for me to take on programmers from here would be too costly but its now getting to the point where i really have no choice but to do that and take the cost on the chin. But at least i will be safe in the knowledge that the work will be done to my standards and will work, rather than it being done in a rush and full of bugs, which my customers will only complain about.

They were worried about the racial attacks that had happened in the area, when a complaint was made they changed their policy and apologised.

At least they're running a business and not claiming benefits or working cash in hand like some do.

Stole my joke. *Takes huff*

I don't think huffing polish is particularly wise... :p

I wouldn't accept that this mindset exists in all immigrants. A friend of mine is polish who came to this country after the war-one in which he fought with the Brits aginst the Germans. He has worked here most of his life, self-employed and was always most curteous to all of his customers. A real nice guy to be with and to talk to. He is now 86 and still works-out at the gym.

i know what your saying

polish joiners will work 12 hours a day for less than £100 and i respect them for that

but i am used to earning nearly double that for less work

you might say im lazy, but this is my standard of living and they are threatening it

like you said the indians are the same in your line of work

why should we have to have immigrants taking our jobs and forcing their work ethic on us, in our country when they are from a different country/society/class/world/etc

we need to look after our own

The polish shopkeeper is plainly being racist and should be charged with a public order offense for inciting racial hatred or something. They wont of course.

He's not being racist. Xenophobic is the closest I guess.

Also, he is not obliged to serve anyone he doesn't want to. The shop is his premises. I'm pretty sure he can discriminate against his potential clientele in any way he pleases, but I await Raymond Lin or someone similar to confirm that.

OH NOES CAPITALISM!

If they'll work harder for less, then of course they'll get hired over you.

I refer you to Maddox, for as long as it takes for the mods to read that link, find it's got some swearing and remove it.

Not exactly, that was my thought but having done a bit of research a shopkeeper can't dsicriminate on certain grounds as outlined by my post #25 in this thread.

I fear I'm missing something here, there must be an "and..." missing from that sentence or are we just giving out random biblical non-sequiturs? If we are then Goliath was a champion and David was a shepherd. :)

pontius pilate was a tax inspector...........

Well... in all fairness, joiner, anywhere in the world, is a low skill manual labour. I understand British brickies, joiners, roofers and the rest of the "do me quick NVQ for prompt career" brigade enjoyed their life to the max charging stupid prices while there was a shortage of manual labour on the market, but let's face it - if every carpenter in the world was paid £40 an hour you could never afford fully furnishing your own home. As with every sector collapse cheap labour rates hit as double whammy - 30 of your monthly clients save money, thus improving their standard of living. Standard of life of one of you trade guys is threaten. It's an easy vote...

We have had a pub taken over and replaced with a "Europa - Polish only Cafe".

A couple of lads I know went in and were promptly marched back out. It's becoming a joke.
