Poll: Aldi or Oldie

So what is the correct way to pronounce Aldi?

Aldi has become a very fashionable place to shop for the upper-middle classers... who are often pretentious enough to pronounce foreign-origin words in foreign accents, to effect an air of superior education, even if they get it wrong or have to invent it.

They did the same thing with Porsche, pronouncing it with an Ah at the end of it.

No need to speculate or have a poll, here it is right from the horse's mouf:

Arguably 'Por-shuh' is the correct pronounciation of the name, but since we Anglicise most foreign words it comes down to how consistently you want to apply that.

Affect would be to adopt or pretend something.
Effect is to cause the existence of, or successfully produce, something - In this case an air of superiority, ie the outward appearance or projection, even if the truth does not match the demeanour.

They affect the foreign pronunciation to effect the air of superiority.
:p:p:p

I usually pronounce it weight-rows or sanes-breeze if I'm absolutely slumming it.

Also I live near Marlborough and it's only the last few years I've realised it's supposed to be Maul Bruh rather than Marl like I've been saying it for 20 years.
