I would say graphics are the least important, obviously the nicer the better but I say it goes in this order.

Gameplay
Audio
Graphics

I love the eye candy as much as the next person but cracking audio is what can really define a game for me.

Gameplay is the main thing, sound and graphics come in at a reasonably distant second.

I would prefer a game that looks "dated" in terms of graphics, but has great gameplay to one with cutting edge graphics and mediocre gameplay.

If a game looks great but plays poor, I won't buy it. If a game plays great but looks poor, I won't buy it. Gameplay and graphics have to be great for me to buy a game.

Picture this, you were a rpg fan and had been living under a rock for the last 10 years and never heard of Final Fantasy 7, a friend recomends the game to you, you wouldnt play it now because the graphics are not great?

Nope, I wouldn't play it becasue I don't like the gameplay. I have played it, and I do hate it.

By rubbish graphics, I mean something like FF7 being released now on 360/PS3. Anything older is allowed to have poorer graphics and still be good, it's why I still play Diablo. Graphics aren't great, but at the time they were.

I was using that purely as an example, I just dont think I could say that I wouldnt play a 10/10 gameplay game from 5years ago today because the graphics are sub-par. Just my opinion though.

Graphics and Gameplay are the priority of any game studio producing the 'top of the range' titles, music isn't AS important, but it's still very, very important none-the-less.

You can't point out one thing anymore, the days of the Psone are gone, these days you must have all of them to even contend.

Gameplay is the most important. In most cases, graphics are more important that sound but there are some games where the soundtrack is so good, it more than makes up for basic graphics.

As for the FF7 question, I would play it again now but after half and hour, I would wish I was playing Panzer Dragoon Saga instead :p (PDS was the one game I had in mind when I made the point about soundtracks) [/saturn fanboy]

Ah the argument that's been around since computer gaming began.

I voted... gameplay. There's only one choice if you HAVE to vote either way.

Of course, gameplay will still be a major factor for many gamers when graphics reach levels that satisfy most of us, and may be indistinguishable from reality.

I voted gameplay, Graphics don't bother me atall, I can still go back and play the original Civilization game. Leaps and bounds above Civilization 4 for enjoyment.

Also, Littlebigplanet is a lot more interesting to me than any game i've seen advertised so far. Graphically it's not great compared to some other games, But online gameplay wise, It's phenominal looking and I cant wait.

Don't get me wrong, I love a pretty game, But it's nothing without the game play to back it up.

A mix of all 3 would be an option i could choose, But i don't mind losing the graphics. :)

The classics, that people continue to play for a long all have quality gameplay. Anything else always comes second. Nothing will ever top quake 3 arena for gameplay tbh, evah

/misses q3 :(

All about game play.

Deus Ex, Mafia, Baldurs Gate, Planescape & Civ 2 there all classics that can still compete with the games of today.

Gotta be gameplay... with good gameplay you can become almost oblivious to graphical flaws but the contrary can't be said to be true - no matter how good the graphics are, flaws in gameplay will still stop me from playing a game I don't get along with.

I know it's a PC game and this is in the Console section, but it's the first example that springs to mind... BF2 looks stunning on my PC yet plays horribly, imo (sorry to all the BF2 fans), whereas CoD is less visually impressive but has way more playability. I can't remember the last time I played BF2, but CoD still gets played even now.

I'm guessing you choose not to play some real great games then.

gameplay is most important but 16bit era graphics / sound on the next gen console is unacceptable, 8bit (nes/master) graphics is unacceptable on 16bit console.

If a game has graphics like dreamcast / ps2 on the Xbox 360 / PS3 with a great gameplay it is acceptable.
