I use WASD and normal mouse for most games, though I do use inverted mouse for flight games, mainly because the first one I played only allowed you to use inverted mouse so it became habit.

How people play FPS without inverted mouse amazes me

Not when your body reacts like you say it does, when the Y-axis is 'normal' like below

if i forget when setting up a new game or jump on another lads PC at a Lan for instance i instantly feel like i'm trying to play after downing 10 pints :( find my head physicaly lifting up and trying to stop myself looking at the floor, makes me big time ill :)

Wrong wiring in your head there guv :D

I use WASD and invert the mouse. The reason is that I'm used to inverted controls from games like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark on the N64. (Although didn't they have the options to invert the controls? I guess it was the default).

WASD and "normal" mouse for me. I went through a phase of using the arrow keys and the mouse in my left hand for a short while after being introduced to PC gaming because my best friend at the time did the same, and having not seen anyone else really play games on a PC before, I just assumed it was the norm. I can't remember what inspired me to switch over, though.

Normal mouse, but different key cfg.

D-forward
C- reverse
A- Right
S- Left

Reversing the left/right keys realy works, and sliding the finger over a/s and keeping it held over d/c for forward/back gives you more fluid control.

It's very much each to his own though, i only droped on those keys because that was my define keys option on the zx spectrum, d/c was allways up/down.

:) When I first started gaming on pc when hidden & dangerous, kingpin, soldier of fortune, half life was kind of new I used arrow keys & surrounding keys, the past 4 or 5 years I adapted to the wasd keys but feel I was a sharper gamer when I used the arrows, but I'll be sticking with wasd :D.

I used inverted and the arrrows keys years ago. But have now changed to W,A,S,D and normal mouse settings.

It's easier to find the arrow keys while in a game without having to glance down and you can easily feel the keys surrounding the arrow keys. But it just not as natural to sit with your arm crossed over.

Unless you are left handed maybe.

TFGHFTW.

Although, I'm getting kinda lazy in my old age and now am simply using WASD for a lot of singleplayer games as I can't be arsed to remap the keys.

I've said it before, I've said it again, the sooner MS puts some kind of "gaming keyboard setup" in DirectX (or similar) the better. Essentially what I'd like is this:

-You go into dx control panel and define common actions like forward/back/left/right/lean/primaryfire/secondaryfire/jump/use/map/inventory/status etc etc.
-Games by default map their actions to these controls in addition to WASD
-Then when you play the game all you need to reconfigure is just a couple of keys that are maybe bespoke to that game, everything else is preconfigured, no matter what crazy combination you use.

Essentially what I'm talking about here, is 'globalising' gaming controls throughout Windows, and then letting games make use of that. MS could encourage developer support by making it a requirement for the Games for Windows certification.

WSAD invert for FPS and so on, but for some reason, WSAD and no-invert for WoW. Just feels odd on WoW
