I probably will be, but like some others not at launch.

I will aim to pick up a 4950X equivalent once there start to be some deals... This autumn all my PC spending belongs to a new GPU!

I'll be upgrading to a 47/8/900 but this assumes they run a bit cooler as my H100i likes to spin up it's Noctua fans quite a bit on my 3700X.

I suppose it also depends on whether a 3080 or AMD equivalent will not be "capped" on PCI3x16. I assume it won't if a 2080ti isn't.

Yep, I'm on the look out for a new gpu too. Will see what the 30 series nvidia's cost then probably buy a second hand 1080ti when I see the astronomical numbers
Yeah lol, Im ready to buy a 3080 but if Nvidia extract the urine im hopeful a second hand 2080S can be got for a reasonable price.

Im looking for some high end GPU’s with a lot of memory bandwidth and it seems I’m going to have to pay through the nose. When looking at what’s probably on the way it seems Nvidia are possibly looking at GDDR6X which should fit the bill. My concern is Nvidia plan to release first, not an encouraging sign.

If my sums, info fishing and guess-a-mations are correct, to get the most out of the next round of GPU’s people will need a PCI-E 4 system and an upper end Ryzen 3 chip.

I've got a 3600 and will use this for another year or two then upgrade to a 12 core part which should do me a number of years before upgrading to AM5/DDR5 when those prices come down to a reasonable level.

I'll be ditching Threadripper 1 for Ryzen 4000. Not only does it take too long for them to release TR after the mainstream processors, but they also cost too much of a premium.

Got rid of the 3950x a good while ago, and just sold the 3600 as part of a system build, have a Ryzen 5 4650G Pro on order (still) that I will play with until the next Ryzen 5 4600 comes out or whatever it is called, might even look at a 4700X (or 3700X equivalent).

I think the current issue with TR is that they only start at 24 cores which carries a high cost. If you don't need that many cores but want the extra PCIe lanes then your stuck with zen+ or Intel. I'm supprised they haven't released a 16 core TR part priced around £700 for those people.

I will ditch it, but in like 1-2 years time. Not on release. Will probably buy it as people ditch their 4000 ryzen for 5000 :p

My reply irrelevant to this thread (sorry yolks :) ) but ditching 9900K for Ryzen 4000 will depend on how good it is. I've not been following recently so have no idea. Ideally I want to next upgrade when DDR5 lands so most probably not going to bother.

To make my reply more relevant - I was hoping for a more extreme 16 core(than the 3950X) on the latest TR platform originally, then I might have upgraded to that which would then have led to 4000 based TR without another mobo change.

SFF Ryzen 7 4750G machines on test. Absolute beasts. If these are anything to go by, the 3rd gen Ryzen versions will be >stupendous.

I plan on picking up a nice 3700X/3800X/3900X to replace my 2700X when one of you lot breaks and drops a stack on a new 4000 series :D

My main system has a 2600X, with a view of jumping jumping to the 4700X. I hope it lasts me the entire 'generation'. I try to base my computer upgrades based on the console cycles.
