Pool Rules

I'd agree with your second comment but there's no way it has more tactics than 8 ball especially if your playing world rules.

Tactics in 8-ball.

Pot ball or block pocket. Period.

Tactics in 9-ball.

Run (try to pot all the balls to get to the 9)
Hide (try to make your opponent make a mistake to give you a ball in hand)
Risk (try to pot the 9 early through a plant)

Do you try to nudge tricky balls into open positions? Risky if you then miss, since you made it easier for your opponent but risky if you don't since it makes your shots harder.

In 8-ball the only shared ball is the black. In 9-ball every ball is shared so an easy shot for you is an easy shot for your opponent. Also leaving a ball over a pocket in 8-ball is a good thing; in 9-ball it's a giveaway to your opponent.

8 ball is a much more tactical game than 9 ball :/

9 ball is played with planet sized balls and a tree trunk as a cue. There's no finesse, no tactics, nothing.

its nice to play when you can't be bothered playing something more intensive but thats about it IMO.

so many people play so many different rules, it really depends on wether your playing anything official or not.
ive always found that if im playing someone in an area outside of my own, then i ask what rules are played and generally find that people who play me in my area (who i havent played before) ask what rules i play by.

also, it depends on wether you have to pay to release the balls (pub table etc), which would mean no re rack due to cost :p

what we play
1 - free ball
2 - still 2 shots

agree with this
