Poor eyefinity performance, crossfire 6970s

sorry meant in crossfire.

yes i remember with me burnout played fab over 3 screens with one card, things always got worse when adding the second with any game

I can run with eyefinity enabled on 1 card at v decent frames. It's when 2 cards are enabled there is a problem and fps are actully lower. I will show some examples shortly, i'm doing some Acronis back ups right now.

What FPS do you get with only one card mate?

I'm now playing BC2 with 60FPS and Metro 2033 with 75ish with high and 4xAF

BFBC2 :

Test performed from part on first level just after you meet the scientist. Frames are checked running up and down the hill, it give a nice steady rate to test.

on one monitor at native res of 2048 x 1152........

getting a nice 60 FPS with 1 card enabled

getting an even better 90 FPS with 2 enabled

three monitors with eyefinity res 6114 x 1152

get about 35 - 40 FPS

All setting on high, HBAO off, vsycn off, AA + AF x4

Crysis :

Just ran two test on native res.

2 cards ...

Run #1- DX10 1920x1080 AA=16xQ, 32 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 40.77

1 card ...

Run #1- DX10 1920x1080 AA=16xQ, 32 bit test, Quality: VeryHigh ~~ Overall Average FPS: 41.79

I'm seeing the same 40 percent GPU usage as yourself badboy, I'm now running a completely clean build using 11.2. I'm gonna try your Radeon Pro trick and see if it makes a difference :)

Kevy1986, thos seem pretty good to me bro. If I am reading right, you suffer a performance hit on BC2 when going EF? But for one monitor, you get better with two cards?

What exactly is the issue? Remind me what cards they are? 6970s?

Try ATI Xtension 1.4 too!

Yeah i'm really happy with BFBC2 on one monitor. The main reason for getting the two cards was to run in eyefinity tho and the results are terrible. I have just ran crysis and wandered about the forrest at the start, 30 FPS with 1 card, 60 with 2 cards ( one monitor ) . Its definately working but it appears i'll have to just play games on one monitor to get the advantage of two cards. Could be worse I guess. I'll try out this ATI Xtension. Oh yeah btw bad boy none of this worked until a done a fresh re-isntall. The ATI drivers are terrible.

hmmm tbh thats looks about right imo. i thought you were getting worse fps with crossfire. you should try clock your q6600 a bit more.

Fresh install all the way
I see what you mean. One monitor is fine. With three, it fails?

Sorry are you getting 60FPS on battlefield with 3 monitors bad boy ?

Between 50 and 60 mate but that's medium settings with 2/4AF. Not great but GPU usage sat at only 50%

I have done a fresh install of BC2 and now getting 90+ FPS with GPU usage hitting 90%! I am not sure what has been done. Metro also works at over 50fps, normal, 4x4x

I'm happier now

so am i because i was concerned 2 6950's would not be enough @ 5760x1200

did you do a fresh install of metro too?

Will try this with bc2, would make sense if the game scans your system for your specs, sees you only have one card, optimises it for one card, you put another in and it is like OMFJBGJDJDKSMRNDNEJS.

Yeah, makes sense :)

I am now running most games with >70fps :) :)

I really don't know that I did or what changed. I switched the position of the gcards and replaced drivers. I went through the process above -> 10.8 CCC and 11.4 drivers.

With Homefront, I get 62FPS constant at 6048x1200

I would recommend the above process.
I would also recommend RadeonPro latest version

are the settings maxed out with decent amount of AA? also are your 6970's clocked up? if so what they running at please?

Settings for BC2 are 8x/2x, high detail, HBOA off
Settings for Homefront are high detail, 4x AA
Settings for Bulletstorm are high, 2x AA
Settings for Batman are High with 4x AA

The gcards are not overclocked as they don't really need it. Power is at +20% though, which may have been one fix for BC2 lock ups that I was getting

Good luck

I'm sorry I didn't see this thread earlier. I wasn't getting full use (around 50-60%) of both GPUs (5850s) in BC2 until I did a fresh install of the game (had too for some other odd reason that I forget now) and it's in the 90's all the time now. The original install was before the second GPU was added.

Also, there was an update to Punkbuster a few days ago that has caused a lot of system crashes for people (while playing BC2), including myself. I've uninstalled PB for the time being and all is OK now.

Im glad to hear you guys are sorting out the crossfire eyefinity problem, im saving my pennys to get a second 6970 myself

Keep us informed mate. You going EF?

Yeah, PB was causing some CTDs for me. The bigger problem was system lockups. Sorted by

1. Disabling onboard audio through > my computer > manage only when playing
2. Using 10.8 CCC and having profile with +20% power for both cards

Not sure which fixed it... but it's fixed :) :) Massive x :)
