Poor performance 7990

Kaapstad, do you, or have you ever, run 2 x 7990s?

(Sorry to invade this thread)

No but I was tempted

What has put a stop to that idea is the new HD 9970 which will be with us soon. If they are interesting I may want to do a build with some of them.

If anyone is tempted to run two HD 7990s it would have to be on water as from the few reviews I have seen on air the temps are way too high. If it was just a case of replacing my 7970 platinums with two HD 7990s I would have done it, at less than £500 each they are a real bargain.

so i guess exchanging my 7990 for a titan will do the trick if i want to be able to play rome on anything other than medium settings... so annoying as the 7990 isnt exactly a poor card :(

Have you actually tried comparing the frame rate between the Medium and max/near max? If the low frame rate is because of your CPU, your frame rate should remain the same regarding of the graphic settings you use.

Ah, I was tempted by 2 x 7990s but may stick with my original idea of 2 x 780 ACXs

Thanks for replying

been reading a fair bit on the TW forums, seems everyone is having the same issue, shocking performance on high end systems, guess its a game issue :/ just installing crysis 3 to see what the gfx are like but BF3 ran maxxed out on ultra perfectly...

Make sure to disable ULPS with afterburner ot trixxx. It won't be the cause of the issue you mention but it can give you slightly better fps. :)

The game is crap. Simple as that.

The 7990 will run anything well if you partner it with a decent cpu. A 3770 is not ideal if you cant overclock it.

Its Not the 7990s fault that you didnt do any research into games and what cpu you require... also overclockers will not exchange items... you would have to sell it. Buy a better cpu and play better games.

ocuk will accept the 7990 back if it's within 14 days - though I wouldn't think of getting a Titan. RTW2 will improve hugely with Crossfire support with driver updates and game patches.

Game engines will play a huge role in how it performs and how good its coded as many games are ports from consoles and lazy programmers.
dx11 for example is slow due to most coding has been done on dx9 engines so get all that manpower to learn to go dx11 takes years.

BF3 and BF4 will run perfect due to whatever DICE does their coding is good as they are able to support dx11 way better than any engine out there. (As far I know)
windows 8 and 64 bit OS recomended for BF4 indicate that.

I buy my cards for the games I play.
Since mainly its battlefield the rest of games runs well or with bad coding like a dog.

As far as single cards go, the HD 7990 is the better option in 99% of situations. I would not even think about changing it for a single Titan as you will lose a lot of performance.

Hopefully the devs will have RTW2 running a bit better in the next week or two.

Rome 2 performance is so flaky at the moment it could randomly perform worse on the Titan. Would not consider exchanging the card based on Rome 2. Play the other games you like and if the performance is as you expect in them then your happy.

Your 7990 has nothing to do with the performance in Rome 2 in it's current state as others have mentioned :)

Yeah it's the games problem not the 7990. ARMA 3 is the same, no matter what setup you have most multiplayer servers just run horrible.

I've only had the cpu for 7 days so i ll send it back and get a 3770k and look to overclock. I've seen a benchmark of rome with a titan today with an average of 30 fps so same story as far as performance is concerned. I'll stick with the 7990 as im happy with its performance on the other games i have and play.

Yea definitely contact OcUK asap. The return postage cost is nothing comparing to not having the option to overclock.

Great news there.

get a 3770k or a 4770k in that system and make sure you have a beefy cooler and watch those games fly :D
