Samsung HD401LJ 400gig sataII hdd

on fresh install of vista 64

using hdtune
min transf: 0.4mb/sec
max transf: 68.7mb/sec
avr: 51.7mb/sec

access time: 15.4ms
burst rate: 103.9mb/sec
cpu usage: 2.4%

everytime I run the benchmark tranfer is slow for the 1st 5seconds, then it picks up

reason I am looking at hdd benchmark is because of slow boot up times, from seeing the scrolling bar when vista starts to load - to login prompt takes around 1min 20secs

UPDATE: I have noticed that "raw read error rate" and "rellocated sector count" are high lighted in yellow, which I guess means they are almost failed!

should I return the drive to ocuk?

Hmm doesn't look to good, maybe a write zero will help? :S if not I'd return it... success

Samsung should have a diagnostics program on their site - check the sticky at the top of the forum, there should be a link in there. Run that and see what it says.

Ran the samsung diagnostics and it passed, zero'd the hdd and installed vista which ran fine for about 2hrs, than it started to run slowly again! rebooted and it took approx 3mins to reach a logon prompt....

fitted my old 160gig sata and installed vista and it been fine all week...

have look at these.... my older samsung drive has a much more constant benchmark (i can post that bench also if needed) should I take the samsung back?
