hi there
i was just wondering if anyone could help me with vets or just some adavice on a sick animal.

I am currently unemployed but am not seeking council tax or housing benefits therefore the pdsa cannot help me,
I understand that a few of you will say if you cant afford the bills dont have a pet but you need to understand that it wasnt a choice to be out of work.

Anyway my poor rocky has been ill since wednesday now, he hasnt eaten and has been constantly being sick and very lathargic. he will get up every now and then for some water but thats all, he wont walk anywhere and he isnt being his normal bubbly self!
I am very worried because he is only 4 and this is how my old dog had to be put down.

thank you for any help!

Take him to the vet. Most vets will sort out a payment plan if you can't pay immediately.

And get out and find another job.

You really need to go to a vets.

Even if someone on here were able to diagnose the problem, they woudn't be able to prescribe the medication needed for treatment. Surely your local vets will come to some sort of arrangement with you to settle the bill at a later date.

I wouldn't have thought being sick for 2 days would be a major cause for alarm?

If someone in your household claims council tax benefit your pet will qualify for PDSA treatment, otherwise call vets to enquire about payment plans or the RSPCA and tell them you can't look after your pet and explain the situation and get them to take it into care before it's gets bad enough for them to prosecute you for neglect.

not sure where you are ,if in yorkshire our vets is very very cheap ,i.e full check up and jabs £12.50 ,operation about £50

As he said, I know its a bad thing to say but if you can't look after the pet then it should goto the RSPCA which is unfortunate as they may just PTS.

Some people seem to think Vets are charities the reason most want money upfront is that they get scammed a lot with people not paying.

You wouldnt take your car to a garage and expect them to let you pay in installments or any other business.

Cut back on some of lifes little luxeries and get some pet insurance,it would only be about £15 a month.

This is quite untrue, the garage I use will let me pay at a later date, if I have to. Not that I've ever needed too, but the option is there (not that this has anything to do with the subject). Same goes for vets.

If you agree to have work done and are invoiced for it, that is legally binding, all it takes is a signature.

Vet bills are expensive, so it would be ridiculous for every vet in the country to expect people to be able to pay upfront.

Its not that i havent tryed, and i do have pet insurance, i have rung around a number of vets and they wont do a payment plan =[
i have just taken him for a walk and he got a bit more lively but has just come back and got in his bed.
we have now found a vet that will see him but the problem is they think he will be kept in and thats what i cant afford!
also there is no way my dog would be taken as neglect

If you have insurance then what is the problem?

Hows the job hunt going?

Yeah, can't understand the issue here, if you have pet insurance = no brainer??
What's the deal?
It seems like you care for your dog, but i know if my dog was sick and i was as worried as you, i'd rather go without and use the money on having the dog treated.
But I (and you apparently) have pet insurance.
Get it sorted.
