Hi I was wondering what the typical price would be for building a porch? I am worried that it'll make the hallway a bit darker though, so kinda contemplating on a porch vs a new front door.

I think getting one will help keep heating costs down in the home.

someone quoted me about 5K to build a porch, and this is based in the south east btw

is that a reasonable quote?

5K for how big? Brick? half brick and uPVC?

I was quoted around £6.5k for a 2m x 3m porch that was 1/3rd height brick wall and then uPVC with a pitched roof, I did query about all brick but was told roughly the same price.

I live up in Lincolnshire.

not entirely massive like 1.5m x 2m. Half brick with the rest UPVC

6.5k sounds quite expensive but probably everything has now gone up in price.

yer I think it's crazy also but surely most of the cost will go into the doors/windows
so if the porch is like mostly doors/windows it will add up quickly.

Am in the SE and we had one added earlier in the year and it's around 2.5m x 1.5m with composite door and small window on the side and pitched tiled roof.
Full brick and was around £5k for the build then the extra for the supply and fit of the door by another company. I think the door was around £1500.
It was the going rate after having spoken to numerous builders.

We had a porch built about 7 years ago, to replace a flat roof canopy that soaked up the rain and dribbled it back out for the next few days. I couldnt see the point in repairing it, so went full on porch. We had a few quotes, and I specified that I wanted it to match the house in brick and style, the side window had to match the bay window and be the same height, the tiled roof had to match and also T&G flooring with Amtico to match the current hallway flooring, and including outside lighting etc.. We also got them to replace the guttering front and back, and I maxed out the size without needing planning permission :D.
According to the builder, we should also have an internal door, but I said NO, and signed a disclaimer to say it was my choice to not have it, as I didnt want it to be enclosed.
The front door is a Solidor, with frosted side panels with the house number etched into the glass, it alone cost 1.5K. They have a great website to build your own door inside and out, and I then passed the details to the builder to sort out.

The internal ceiling is vaulted to give a more spacious feeling, with a pair of LED lights pointing down.

We love the thing, and the builder did a great job, as I told him exactly how I wanted it, so there was no misunderstandings. And it lets way more light into the hallway than before.

The total cost was 7.5K, and we were told its more expensive than you first think as its like building a mini extension, with proper foundations, insulation, drainage for the guttering, electrics etc..

One chap quoted us 12K!!

Here's a few pictures to give you an idea, not sure what it would cost today tho. Any Q's just ask :)

When we looked into getting a porch, we went for walks around the neighbourhood (commonplace nowadays in covid times) and just looked out for one we liked, knocked on their door and had a chat about which builder did it and how happy they were with the builder.... And the same builder ended up doing ours :)
