Porsche 911 74' RSR Replica build

Nice one, they were all up on there before now that you mention it but logging into my account they seem to have all gone and been replaced with 5 random images :\ I'll get them up now anyway.

edit - found the album for the turbo body 911 cab he done but not the other one, will upload now

Apart from his taste in wheels your dad looks to have the gift :D

Should have put a new back window panel in that soft top.

Its still not my cup of tea but in my opinion its one up from normal replicas because it is a Porsche to start.

AC replicas have got about as much in common with an AC Cobra as a Proton, if you get what i mean.

What would be your cup of tea out of interest mark?

Whilst your father has talent in this area compared to me, all those garages would be on fire and the car too if I was within a mile of it with an electric sander, the cars is much more a look alike than a replica. The key to this car was lightweight and an epic engine and I'm pretty sure this car is all bodywork and probably (assuming here) standard under pinnings which to me isn't worth much.

Each to their own however and if your dad is happy so be it.

same problem however

Cult status, very rare, extraordinarily high prices, so people resort to making their own version.

Bit like people who turn their 3 Door cossies into RS500 replicas because the real RS500s are relatively rare.

Interesting point, is your Dad changing anything other than the bodywork ?

Right, for those interest, here is the album of the restore of the blue 911 posted above.

a lot of photos missing and in no particular order at the moment, will try and find the others when I get time.

Looks like that made a very nice rust free example for someone that, i think its great when someone has got the skill and inclination to do a project like that.

True that, but the man seems to be turning out a nice product at the end, it just wont reach those epic pound note proportions.

The engine is a fully rebuilt 3.2 Carrera engine, hopefully jenvey throttle bodies. This one is going to be Hellgelb yellow in color with gold decals. It's mostly a bodywork restoration but obviously all the brakes, exhaust etc have/will all been done too.

Some more info now that he's back from the pub :p -

The wheels on this one are lightweight magnesium BBS alloys which are very very light.
11" front wheels only on to move it at the moment.
Roof orignally had sunroof which has been removed and new roof welded in and lead filled.
335/35/15 tyres on the back :)

True wont be worth epic amounts as one with the engine fully done etc, but the last one which wont be up to the same standard as this one still went to auction at 36k :)

Im not knocking him, i take me hat off to the man and if i was in the market for one of those id rather give your dad me money and get a rust free one, good on him i say.

Ask him is he putting a G50 gearbox in :)

He's keeping his options open at the moment, what it really needs is a turbo engine and box he said :D

His view is the majority of the time/effort/work is in the bodywork and the engine/box can easily be dropped in later.

If you know of any G50 gearboxes going cheap let me know :)

I think this is why they still fetch good money, the majority of a restore is getting the bodywork back to a high standard, after that transporting an engine/box is relatively little work. They seem to be snapping them up in Germany if done well.

Will be sure to keep the thread updated as the project progresses. (just dont expect weekly updates as he runs a bodyshop business and these projects are on the side :))
