Porsche Macan

It's a damn sight nicer looking than the Cayenne and I'm sure it will sell thousands.

43k for the base model and you don't even get cruise control or bluetooth....I'll stick to my SQ5 thanks.

I could vomit on some roadkill and it would look nicer than a Cayenne.

I'm with Lemonade with this one, I hate the fact that we're inundated with SUVs already and yet more and more are being produced.

All they do is make the journey to work that little bit more grim with all the mums doing the school run in them and clogging up the roads due to them not knowing how wide the damn things are

BUY A NORMAL 3/5 DOOR HATCHBACK FOR YOUR 1 CHILD YOU PILLOCK.

I'm not a fan :p

It's a great bit of kit by all accounts. People don't generally care about the kit when it comes to Porsches - or cars of this caliber in general - as they'll just want the best and tick lots of boxes.

I actually like the look of the modern Cayennes, especially in the right configurations. Damned fine pieces of machinery too. The previous generations were unpleasant though, to say the least.

Really thought this would be my next car (on paper). Not so sure now.

Didn't expect it to be a bargain, but looks a bit tight in the rear, a bit fugly from the back end and a bit out of proportion in general.

The Porsche online configurator is a bit rubbish too.

Back to the drawing board.

It's the SUV the monthly payment brigade have been waiting for! Just a hundred quid more per month than a white S Line Audi, who wouldn't want a Porsche keyring for that?

In all seriousness it's supposed to be very good but the monthly bling brigade would snap them up even if they sucked.

To be fair I would pick this style of car over a hatchback every day of the week.

Exactly this.
Being based on the Q5 is no bad thing as it's the least depreciating car in the UK , retaining 93% of it's value after a year.

The only challenge is being able to secure an order which isn't stretched out into 2015.

The options list is very extensive but with PDK being standard and a few boxes ticked, including wheel upgrade, a petrol S is £44.8k.

Only reason I would have an SUV would be if I was towing a caravan or had to navigate some off road stages. Had some rough roads in Cyprus and had the Forester there.

No matter how good they are, there are too few scenarios where it would be better than say a Golf GTI.

You said it all when you said "style" as they are totally a fashion accessory for the majority.

This is all well and good but what I really want...

Well i guess fox was aluding to the genre of car. ie CUV or SUV as oppose to a hatchback. You seemed to get excited by that fact he used the word style that he had a preference to a 'design led' car rather than the attributes an SUV offers.

Not at all, it is a fact most people buy them for style and fashion not because they are great to drive, have great running costs, are eminently practical etc.

Unless you need off road capability, (or maybe towing) there isn't an SUV out there that hasn't got a better option in a different "segment".

What is actually wrong with buying a car due to style and fashion? Loads of purchases are governed this way, cars need not be any different.
