Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Opinions on this, and this model Boxster in particular?

Maybe I'm missing something but that looks stupidly over priced?

A 2009 is no different to a 2007 (I don't think), I recently sold my 2007 3.4L S with similar sort of mileage and spec (and I included a years OPC warranty). It went for asking price which was £13.5k?

Actually thinking about it I paid less than that car is up for when mine was less than 4 years old from a Porsche garage with 2 years warranty. This was when it was the current model as well.

Sell the accord and get a 997

Idea would be to sell the S2000 and the Accord and use some spare cash and get a Porsche.

What I am struggling with is that I don't know what the Boxster would offer me over an S2000 apart from 2 extra cylinders and a badge. The 911 however is something entirely different and a dream car of mine.

Don't bother. You'll only be bored after a week or two and want something else.

Do you have ADHD? anyway the boxster won't give twice the experience of the S2000.

It's no different apart from having the new DFI engine free from IMS and bore scoring issues, new headlights, rear lights, bumpers and interior. Facelift cars demand a big premium.

You quote the price of your boxster quite frequently like a solid benchmark. It you sold it for a couple of grand less than market in my opinion.

The DFI and IMS stuff is blown way out of proportion. The car hardly looks any different to mine, it's certainly not worth nearly £10k more! In real world terms the facelift makes near on 0 difference. Get a decent 2007 and slap the OPC warranty on it, done.

I sold mine for bang on what it's worth in my opinion. I watched the market for months before and saw people selling the same sort of cars for £2k more and them sitting on AT and PH for weeks / months. I could have put mine up for £15.5k and waited 3 weeks, and then eventually got knocked down to £13.5k-£14k.

It is really as simple as this:-

Rooftop down motoring: Buy Boxster 3.4 S
Want as new as Porsche as you can buy with immense handling: Buy a Cayman S

If the above fits, 2009 to stretch to a 2009 or new model with newer DFI engine, you will have no worries though an OPC warranty is advisable still.

Willing to spend more money and want something a bit more challenging that you simply keep back to and can't get enough of, buy the 911. Worried about loosing money, buy a Cayman R or Boxster Spyder

If it's a 2009 car, will it have the newer DFI? is there a way to tell?

EDIT ignore this, I've had a read up and yes, it will be DFI.

I don't think it has the Bose stereo which I think gives iPod integration, which is pretty important to me. Not massively clued up on the specs of them so I have some reading to do.

The important thing is that it's the 3.4 S manual, which is the engine/gearbox I would go for, so it will give me the best idea about how it behaves on the road.

They might have just not listed some stuff but it's missing some pretty important stuff.

It says air con - I'd check to see if it's basic air con or the climate control.
Part leather is a bit crap, the full leather dash makes the dash look 100 times better.
Check the lights, I can't tell from photos and it doesn't say in the ad but if it doesn't have Xenons then walk away.
Heated seats are a must as well, I probably used them about 75% of the time and it meant I could have the roof down so much more.

Personally I wouldn't get caught up on a car with Nav either, it's an okay system but the full leather dash is a better dash upgrade and unlike the 911 it's not a must have as it's a more of a sports car than a GT car.

Before buying one I'd have the rev ranges checked, I wouldn't buy a Porsche without having this checked (I have it checked before buying, 18 months into ownership, and just before sale for the next owner). An OPC can do this and only takes a few minutes.

PS a 3 year warranty for £300 from a garage like that will be completely worthless. Budget £1k a year for the OPC one (I'd probably get the garage to get the warranty put on it before the sale as part of the deal).

Cheers, highly doubt I would get that one, but I just want to drive it to see if I get the taste and then look around for something with a better spec.
