Porsche Owners Thread - If you own one or just like or hate them! :)

Anyone got views on brakes, Oem and aftermarket? Need discs and pads all round. Could go Sebro Oem discs with Pagid rsl26, but intrigued by these new PFC v3 discs and accompanying 11 pads. I’ve got pfc 331 pads now but the dust is biblical which is annoying. Any thoughts?

Sebro if you just want OEM again, they're identical. If you're doing any track days just get PFC, stock discs die REALLY quick on track actually to the point I think they're not fit for purpose.

You tried these PFCv3 discs Chris? My discs are toast which I think is partially due to the PFC331/2 pads.
I haven't personally tried them but it was the most common set I saw on track days, with Endless pads. The stock discs just aren't up to much, I killed mine in 7/8 track days and I'm a pretty casual driver.

I swapped to the Brembo HP2000 offerings on my 996 when I did the swap a while back. Was very impressed for a fast road setup.

May need to replace the brakes on my 987 so will watch what you do with interest.

These are the options, and value for money the PFC stuff looks good?

1 - Porsche OEM 4x Discs and std pads all round £4,795
2 - Sebro OEM Spec x4 Discs and Textar pads all around £2474
3 - Sebro OEM spec x4 Discs and Pagid RSL29 pads £3263
4 - PFC v3 x4 Discs and x4 PFC11 Pads £3574

Booked my first visit of the year to the Ring in May. Going with Mrs EddScott for a change and first time with the GT4. I'm thinking of booking a track day in April at Combe and have looked into driver training for the day. The training was quite expensive so will have to consider it. I've not had a chance to use the car in earnest and mildly apprehensive being my first fruity RWD car. My Spec C Impreza was easy to drive fast and tooled around all day last time we were there.

The amp and optical mount is ready to go in. I've since added the Bluetooth module to the amp and purchased the Audio Fischer "Director" which is a small control knob and screen to go in the centre storage. They also do a "Conductor" which is just a knob to control different functions in the amp. I could do proper installs for either but I'll try both to decide if they are worth having. With the Bluetooth module, I can play music but also make changes to the amp setup via laptop.

The speakers are finally on their way having ordered in November. They'll arrive Monday and are fully plug and play. Bose connectors but 4ohm as they will be run via a non-Bose amp. I won't hook up the OEM sub.
Removing the OE tweeters appears to be impossible without destroying them. We'll see once we get to that stage.

I printed a box for the 38 pin connector and a nice Porsche crest for the top. Wiring wasn't too hard but super easy to make mistakes. All the signal from the car comes in via optical, even remote on for the amp. The Zen translate the information and sends it via optical to the amp. The amp does its thing and sends that signal back into the car via the 38 pin. Power for the Zen and Director is taken from the 38 pin.

I've added a separate power wire from the battery rather than using the power IN on the 38 pin. I'll get some pics later/tomorrow, not really interesting TBF. Made a mount for the fuse.

Now the bit I didn't really want to do. It's the one thing that can't easily be removed as and when I decide to sell. Unlikely as I would only change to a GT3 and that is some years away. Anyway, I stripped out the rear interior and laid sound deadening material. I wonder whether it will make any difference but it's done now. Sadly, I had to take the BCFabs Inconel exhaust off as the drone at 2K made my ears hurt.

I've also filled the bottom corners as best I can. The carpets do fit back in, just! and the luggage eyes still poke through. Mild concern the engine cover won't fit but will cross that bridge later. I couldn't put the rear back together until I got the speakers.

The mic arrived this week for the EQ tune. My home amp has DIRAC so will play around with the tuning software before starting on the car.

Anyone had the Conti Sport Contact7's on a 911? Gibbos review on the Cayman has almost persuaded me to replace the 7yr old P-Zeros that came with the car and are a touch slippy!!

Ignore - Cant see they do them in N rated 305/30/ZR20 103Y :(

I was under the impression that N rated tyres was a requirement for these just because of what they are! If not, thats a big bonus! Its a 2017 car and isnt warrantied so being 'N' rated isnt so much of an issue for me.

Didnt really wat to spend circa £1,350 on a new set of PS4S, hence looking at the contis!

EDIT: IGNORE ME! Found 305/30/20 103Y Conti Sport Contact 7's on camskill so, £818.90 for all tyres. Thats much better!

Interesting update! How did you get on in the end? Was the audio upgrade worth doing?

And good job on removing the engine cover with the clubsports cage - it's a complete PITA! Ask me how I know...

I echo this. Sebro are fine on the road but will crack around the holes on any decent track day. Get something more upmarket if you want to track it.

Goto for many would be a mich ps4s, and those new ps5 look good.

PS5 is below PS4S.

The PS5 is more the budget sport tyre, the replacement for PS4S will be PS5S which is very limited sizes only at present.
From my experience CSC7 beats PS4S in every performance metric bar maybe longevity, won't know that for quite some time.

I put the last update in the above thread rather than here.

It's all in and working nicely. I was unsure about using the Audio Fischer Conductor over the Director but having got used to it, I don't need the screen of the larger Director and don't lose the centre console storage space. I've made up a mount for the Conductor which isn't perfect but will do for now.

I think it was worth doing in the end. Even without EQing the system, it's noticeably better with just basic settings in the DSP software. The potential is there, it just needs EQing. I'm waiting for the DAP to arrive which I'll be using as a source and I'm considering switching from the USB Mic to a XLR as only an XLR can take a certain measurement (think it's time alignment)

For some reason I've suddenly got a Porsche itch to scratch..but I suspect that my budget means I'm going to regret it if I do.

Currently drive a '59 Z4 with the straight 6 3 litre engine.

I'm not one for financing and like to buy outright, so I'd have a budget of ~£15k.

I'm not 'that' bothered by things like quality of the dash material, super quality audio as long as the car is interesting to drive / own. That said the Z4, while I love having a convertible and the big engine, is lacking in a couple of basic things I'd prefer, like cruise control and bluetooth.

For reference my favourite weekend cars from previous ownership are

Integra DC2
Supercharged NB MX5
Twingo RS133
Clio RS200
MKII Golf Gti with a 2 litre bored out engine and cams to make a heady 180bhp!

So, basically, huge power isn't a requirement, but great handling is.

I'm not sure I want a rag top Porsche, but may be overly paranoid about that.

Is this something even worth looking into?

P zeros are trash in anything other than perfect conditions in comparison to CSC7s or PS4S.

Longevity isn’t looking great on mine, but it’s worth it for what they offer.
