im looking for a portable hard drive that doesn't need an external power supply. im looking for one that is approx 30gig plus in size. its mainly to be used to plug into a car stereo to play music stored on it. can anyone recommend one please????

Are you sure the Car Stereo can read a device that large? I had assumed they were meant to read only USB Pen Drives, probably only FAT formatted so a max of 2Gbytes?

I guess you would have to format it with FAT32, not NTFS.

You'll be limited to a 2.5" drive and it will have to work on 0.5 amps of current, if the stereo will provide that much through it's USB port.

I have a 60Gbyte WD Passport, it's been faultless. This is the current product:

well i tried a partition on my mp3 player to act as portable storage which worked. im gonna try a larger size for it though and see if it picks it up on and picks up the files. cheers for the heads up on that though
