Cheers for the info, should some SSR1 do the job? Don't want to go to abrasive since my scratches swirls can only be seen at the right angle.

Just about to order a 7424 with some Sonos DAS pads, apart from a 240 / 110 voltage converter anything else i need?

Got some Meguiars stage 1 to get the paint nice and smooth can this be put on with the PC?

Then get rid of the swirls using the SSR / perhaps polish using my Autoglym super resin afterwards since its a very fine cut then wax using my NXT Tech, worth sealing using autoglym extra gloss protection?

How deep are the swirls? SSR1 is very mild and might not be strong enough to get them out. Try it though and if you find it's not harsh enough just get some SSR2 and use that first, follow that up with the SSR1/Autoglym for a perfect finish. Finally just give it a coat of wax and you should be done.
The Megs can be used on the PC but if you're using the SSR you probably don't need it.

So to summarise

SSR2 first with DAS Orange
SSR1 second with DAS Green
Wax with DAS Blue

What wax is uber atm?

SSR2 first with DAS Orange - If you need it, you may find your swirls don't need anything this abrasive
SSR1 second with DAS Green - Yep, or consider Pro Polish as an alternative

What wax is uber atm? - Ask 100 people and you'll get 100 different answers. Everyone has their faves. Apparently Nattys Blue is good for my car so I've bought some, will let you know how it goes.

I'm not sure on pad colours off the top of my head and I'd better get some work done now so you'll have to ask somebody else that one :)

I assume its ok to apply wax with the PC.....

I've got some pretty hearty pirate scratches on my front wing and bonnet so SSR1 4tw!

Is this recommended for use on CC bumpers and the like?

Oracle, don't you have a debit card? I've had one since i was 16 and i've used that for stuff from America

Few good detailing places neer me, look for the ones with ferrari's and the such parked outfront, expect to fork out the cost of a PC though for someone to do a proper job, might as well buy the gear and do it yourself.

I'd be well happy to hand over £100 and have my car looking like that Ibiza after the job was done if I had a black car with swirl marks on it.

Agreed, exactly my thoughts, I would rather take it somewhere professional than **** it up myself ;)

My thinking being provided you know how to wash your car with care, you are only ever going to need to use the PC once - applying wax etc can be done by hand - its harder - but it can be done.

Practice makes perfect, he's only got the ibiza that good cause he's given it a good crack and read up over the years, problem is you pay 100 + to get your car looking great now but in 6 months time when its swirl city again you need to fork out another 100 +, i'm a practical man so like doing things myself even if i don't get it perfect this time i will learn and do a better job next go :)

Why would it be swirl city in 6 months time if you only ever properly hand wash with a washmit etc?

Swirlmarks happen when people who dont know/dont care wash cars, surely?

But my car only has swirls as the previous owner has obviously either used a car wash or Serbians with a jet wesh and dirty cloths etc. I want somebody to get all the swirls out and then I will ensure that they don't come back.

If anybody knows of somewhere decent near Cambridge please let me know.

Depends on how soft your clearcoat is, mine swirls slightly even when using a wash mitt all meguires / autoglym stuff, microfibre towls i just can't stop it from swirling, it might just be a function of my car and perhaps it having soft paint but no matter how much care i take after 5 washes or so new marks will apear :(

It's becuase you have a Japanese car - they put all their effort in the technical ability and reliability of their cars, which is why the interiors are gash, they feel cheap and the paint is wafer thin.

With quality German cars, you get fantastic quality, awesome paint and huge bills to fix it every 30 seconds.

You can't have both ::p

Even taking maximum care at all time as far as I know you will over time inflict more swirl marks on the paintwork. Can't be helped unfortunately.

Well there is a garage in my village that sells Mercedes cars and they are always immaculately detailed, just gave them a call and they said that they should be able to get the swirls out with a machine polish, going to drop it in so they can have a look in the next couple of days.

They also have a guys who is a genius with "dinks", transformed the flanks of my Fiat Coupe last year, don't know why I didn't think of it before ;)
