Portsmouth Administrators set to close down and liquidate club

You'd think/hope that a deal can be done on the stadium, tax man is owed loads of the debt, can they claim the stadium, local council can use it to stage events, concerts and things, generate a bit of cash and rent it to a new Pompie team who have to start from scratch.

Its a ridiculous situation, and my first thought was, Spurs are already on the way. AFAIK Spurs had been stable for years in wages vs income and this last couple seasons since Harry came in, you've got a larger squad, some cheap deals for the likes of Krancjar, Defoe again, Palacios and several others. Haven't Spurs gone into making a loss zone already under Redknapp? Likewise, he wants to sign "two exceptional players to compete for the league", he's living in a dream world, but owners keep buying into his BS.

Just buy player X and I'll finish 5 places higher, win a cup, challenge for Europe, I promise, oh by the way to get player X to come to club Y, we'll have to pay them a pretty extortionate wage(VDV), I'll also constantly add players promising to sell off other players to make up the difference.

ITs his thing, but ultimately its the owners who should see sense, tell Redknapp where to go if he doesn't like keeping the wages under control.

Big shame if Pompie do dissappear, I really don't share the sentiment that football + history + we love football means somehow they are above normal business, they aren't, which means some will have awful managers, terrible owners and will end up bankrupt. Atmosphere was always good in Pompie games, good stadium, some good players, horrible managers and owners though :(

Maybe I gave them to much credit, I should have put most saints fans don't want to see that, just the ****'s, which having lived here for 6 years is sadly, a growing proportion. The new fans they are generating don't understand the rivalry they just think its a reason to be a ****.

In any case, this isn't a pfc-sfc bashing thread, so lets keep it out.

I cant speak for anyone else, but I would happily dance on the graves of Liverpool and City if they were liqudated, and I'm sure they would do the same to Man U if it ever went under.

Just watching ssn, andrew anderonikou is on the phone.

Completely blaming gaydamak, quote "we are where we are, this is not of our making"

Honestly don't think im taking that out of context, thats a hard one to swallow. I know the administrators inherited the situation as is, but even so... reports in the paper i read they are paying kitson, lawrence 20 grand a week.

I remember when forest went through the ringer, we had to let players go just because we couldn't afford to offer them contracts.. thats accepting 'you are where you are'

All along the entire rollercoaster over the last year or two, portsmouth have never accepted that... thats why they find themselfs 'where they are'

Sorry for the fans, yes, but as a fan who saw his own club get decimated by player losses, seeing a promotion pushing team get ripped up into relegation fodder, building it back up the right way... it's hard to feel sorry for portsmouth fc.

Mabey going bust is way out. If i were a potsmouth fan i would get organized and try to buy the portsmouth name from the liquidators and start from the bottom.Might take a decade to get back to 3rd or 2nd div but at least there would be a club for the fans.

I've no desire to see Portsmouth in particular disappear but I do believe it would be good for the game if a largish club goes under. The IR have been trying to push one under for a while and hopefully when it does finally happen other clubs will realise they can't spend more than they have and might actually pay their bills on time.

Just read through the above, and most Southampton fans (like me) don't want Portsmouth to disappear. Yes there is a rivalry and I wouldn't mind seeing them get deducted 10 points each season as they remain in administration, but to not have them around would be a real shame.

You're always going to get some idiot Southampton fans who cheer the fact they could go out of business, but believe me there were plenty of fans doing the same Summer 2009 when Southampton was a couple of days away from going out of business as well. A lot of them were gloating about their recent FA Cup successes too which, I hope for them, were worth the end result..

Fingers crossed a miracle happens and someone comes in to rescue them, but sadly I can't see it. The people that have run the club the way they have have a lot to answer for.

Thank god for some more sensible Southampton fans (it wouldn't be the same with chants about non-league or teams that dont exist)

On a serious note im amazed atpbx's comment, just seems over the top (especially with united in some debt too...), there's one thing enjoying a good healthy rivalry, but another to just peddle hate when the reality without a rival will make football dull, were on the running joke that its a bit sad to see charlton without a real rival (a mate is a big fan so its charlton saints as the biggist games of the season)

How about the FA put in someone to work at every league club going over finances and reporting dealings to the FA.

Wigan are in about 40 million of debt, if they went down they would have to sell nearly every player to get out of debt and even then the players cots would be under cut due to being relegated, its Leeds are all over again .

To all the plastic fans and haters who haven't a clue what it means when a club is so integrated and intertwined into the community that surrounds it SCREW YOU! we are now 6 games unbeaten it looks like we will now live on and we are UNBOWED.

My first game I went to the Park I was 6; it was 29/11/1975 we were playing Oxford and lost 2-0 (It was a game in one of our record 9 losing game sequences) from that moment regardless I was hooked, it would have destroyed me if the Chimes had finally been silenced because of the greed of money fueled egos and bean counters, without consideration of where the emotional ownership of the club really lies; all football clubs have a huge investment of commitment from their real fans and most of the time they are the last to be considered by the powers that have their own self interested agendas.

At this moment I am both relieved and angered by how the whole situation came down to this and I pray that those of you who are genuine fans that it doesn't happen to your club, to rest of you Match of the Day prawn sandwich eaters **** off!

/also to those Saints fans who have made positive support comments here and the texts and emails I've had from various dubious characters from the wrong side of the Hamble -Respect :p

I've said my piece I'll walk away now and won't post here again.
