Portsmouth given Winding up Order

Looks like the axe might be soon to fall on Pompeys days in the premiership. Lets hope for their sake that if this leads down the road to a point deduction that its points deduction from this season rather than next season.

This bit made me chuckle:

It added the VAT, PAYE and National Insurance contributions owed to HMRC had been paid, were about to paid, or were being disputed.

I think that loosely translates as "The cheque's in the post, honest guv!"

Where are the positives, though? They're not doing well in the league (and investing a little bit in January isn't going to fix anything), whilst the stadium is rubbish (20 000 seats, with poor corporate facilities?) so it can't generate that much revenue going forward.

Who's going to invest?!

I just don't think that a club with the tradition of Portsmouth will fold. If it was a regular business, then yes, but I'd be surprised if such a big name goes under without some star struck moneybags fan jumping in. If they go into administration then they will almost definitely go down with the points deduction. Weren't Leeds in much bigger strife and they survived? They'll have to find the right level thats all.

The sooner a couple of premiership clubs go bust forever the better, it's unsustainable for all but the richest owners who are happy to launder money. As an actual business it's about the worst investment you can get for all but the couple of biggest clubs.

Hopefully soon some of the ideas on debt/profit and what you are allowed to spend will happen.

They have not paid wages to players and staff again. It's about time the Premier League did something to put an end to all this nonsense, after all it is supposed to be the richest league in the world.

Its got nothing to do with the premier league until a club tries to gain an advantage by going into administration or it is unable to fulfill its fixtures.

At which point every fixture will be declared a 3-0 defeat (or is it 2-0) and the club will be disqualified from the PL.
After which, its not their problem.

Premier League rules state that if Portsmouth are chucked out of the league only 2 teams would go down and any any existing results against them are expunged.

This means at the top end of the table Liverpool are the big winners as they lost to Portsmouth and everyone else beat them.
