Great race! What a great track.

Loved the extended battles. Goood implementation of Drs

That soft tyre was garbage. Ocon at the end made no progress on it. And Perez went backwards

Albon has to go. He really does.
He's just terrible. Get Perez or. Hulk in that car

Bottas has been put back in his box after the F U comment a few races ago!

Bad race for Renault.
Still think I'd swap ocon for gasley. Even if he had a better race. But think that was mainly because Riccardo was o. A worse strategy

Kind of feel sorry for max. His season is particularly dull. Basically a dead easy 3rd every race

Ferrari are on the up

Notable drives

good

Leclerc
Hamilton
Gasley
Perez

bad
Albon
Vettel
Stroll

This track is good. I like it a lot. The only down side was the large run off bits where they were risking track limits.

Kimi first 1.5 laps though! Can't believe I originally missed it when I was watching it.

Sainz leads! Oh. It’s raining. Oh. It’s raining again! Oh. HAM BOT VER. Damn. The race summed up for me. Good midfield battles though and Stroll just doesn’t learn. Feels like he used to always get his way as a kid so thinks everyone on track cedes to him.

I couldn't disagree more. DRS was an utter joke and as someone else on here said, it made it seem like a game of Mario Kart.

It allowed the close wheel to wheel of the next few corners. Without it there would be no overtakes at all in that track

I think I enjoyed the race as I don't care about the front 3.

I'm sad ocon had an OK race.

I want gasley to take his seat. But it's much much harder for Renault to get rid of an OK ocon than it is for rbr to dump a dire albon.

Gasley is clearly better. But is ocon bad enough for Renault to ditch him? He's going to be taken by a good team of they don't get him

Still tentative on Alonso performance. If Renault are not careful next year they could well end up 6th in the wcc if they keep ocon and Alonso doesn't perform

How would you know this?
Bottas did ask for it. You did hear him say so on the radio?

But at least we know what happens from now on. The same tyre for both, even if you ask for a different kind.

You called BS on both drivers having to use the same tyre (see below), I called BS on Bottas wanting to use the soft based on a complete gamble when every car around him on the soft lost significant race pace, as they have on most tracks this year and against Mercedes track and software simulations. Why would the team do anything else, other than to fit into your conspiracy theories and to disadvantage themselves? It’s the usual poor form from Bottas too. Do you honestly think the softs were going to gain him nearly 25 seconds?

Never knew that both drivers at Merc have to use the same tires at the same time?

I call BS on that.

I'm not bottas or the driver.
But as said. We now know both cars=same tyres.

There is no "conspiracy theories" what so ever.
I just going by what I and everyone saw and heard.
But you're over reacting again.

I called BS on Bottas wanting to use the soft

What do you mean by 'called BS'? He literally said it on the radio:

After being informed over team radio that Hamilton was taking hards, Bottas replied "in that case, maybe we take the softs"

Are you suggesting that was some sort disguised/coded message and he wasn't really suggesting he wanted to try the soft tyre option?

The decision to ask for it, not that he asked for it.

Where am I overreacting? Your the one who was upset that they wouldn’t allow an alternate strategy.

To me the phrase 'call BS' means 'call out for lying', is that not what you meant? Just that it was a stupid request?

Yup, just a stupid request. I was just using @deuse style language in response to his usual drivel :p

Surely bottas would know how poor the soft is at the end of stints from their hours and hours of briefings? Just rolling a dice hoping for the best doesn’t seem hugely professional.

That soft tyre was absolutely garbage.
Why did Renault put it on ocon? They could see how slow Perez was.

I think Bottas wanted it, desperate, fair enough. And the team said, don't be a dunce, here's the hard.

I get what Bottas wanted, but it was desperate and would have done no good

Reall , no point talking about it. No way was he going to lose out gain a position anyway.
There's no conspiracy, or Bottas being nerfed by the team. It is what it is

Some times you have to throw the dice.

Senna did it loads of times.
At one race Senna came in 4 times change tires and still won the race.

But now I have read what wolf has said, I'm understanding why.

See, There is no "conspiracy " as you say. And what made you say that is very strange...

Why did Renault put it on ocon? They could see how slow Perez was.

Ocon only had 12 laps left when he took it on, and Pérez's tyre problems didn't start until after Ocon had fitted the new Reds. In fact, if you look at the lap charts you can see Pérez was faster than both Sainz and Gasly at that point in the race so it made sense.

Most likely it was the right tyre for Ocon, or at least not worse than the Hards that were his other option. Another thing to consider is that we'd seen drivers taking a lap or two to get heat into the hards. That's worth it on the longer runs most drivers did, but possible not with just 12 laps left.

Watched it this morning and gave it 4/10 purely for the first few laps. Everything went back to normal after that. Cracking result for Gasly and I would have voted him driver of the day. Stroll and to a lesser extent, Perez are a pair of idiots. Bottas is utterly useless and you have to wonder why he even carries on. It must be so degrading being so completely outclassed by someone in a identical car almost every race weekend. If the rumours of the new Williams team owners wanting to let Russell go next year are true then they should be ashamed of themselves. Young Russell has punched well above his weight in that steaming turd of a car and deserves a shot in a top team.
