So i reckon my 500gig Iomega prestige HDD is failing, heres some issues im having:

1 - "Delayed Write failed" and "Cyclic redundancy error". These errors occur every time I download a files direct to my external HDD (via torrent or regular download) but not when I download the same files to my internal HDD.

2 - The HDD no longer appears in 'my computer' when I start my system, and after I have restarted the HDD it will still dissapear from 'my computer' eventually.

3 - I am unable to play my music files from my HDD, the media player will play the fist few seconds of the file then an error message will occur, this has happened to all of my music. Again this is only happening to my external HDD and not my internal HDD.

Does this sound like failure to you?

Annoying as ive only had it 2 months and pretty much finished backing all my stuff onto it. I hope i can get all my files off it when my laptop arrives:(

2 months? Get your data off and use the warranty. Also it might be the controller and not the drive thats duff, though likely its the drive.

Sounds like its going up the duff. Fancy C+P'ing the output of a SMART test for us? Also, i'd try putting it into a different port on the mobo (different SATA port for example).

Well im speaking with Iomega through there online support (all im entitled to with this product apparently) hopefully they will sort it. unfortunatley i will have to wait for my laptop before i can get the data off as i dont have another HDD big enough.

looks like im gunna hav to buy a HDD to backup my backup HDD in the future
