Okay, so currently I own an 840 256gb pro but I'm planning on ordering a 850 pro 256gb and may raid in the future.
Will this cause any obvious issues in the future, besides the fact that the 840 may die earlier?

fair enough, thanks for the advice here, may just hold on till I can grab a slightly bigger ssd then if raid won't provide a big enough speed improvement.

I had 2 x SSDs in raid and for gaming and general use I couldn't tell any difference so went back to single drives.

the Samsung software also does not work as it cannot see the drives so you cannot do any firmware updates etc.

I kept them both as single drives and used one for games and the other for for OS and apps.

this was on sata 2 as well so I got the full speeds of single drive use in raid. single drives I was getting 280mb read and write

Pointless RAIDing SSDs outside of an enterprise solution imo, unless you have money to waste :p

If only I did.

bit of a shame really as I previously mentioned may grab a larger drive then, was taking a look at the bx100, I can grab the 512gb version for around 140. which is about the same price it cost me for a my first ssd (120gb) and cheaper than my than my current 840 pro when I bought that a few years ago. amazing how much the price per gb has dropped really.
