I have a Gigabyte EX58-UD5 mobo (latest BIOS), with core i7 920 cpu and Corsair ram.

My machine has been freezing every so often, but now it doesnt get past Starting Windows either in Vista or Windows 7. It occasionaly boots into Windows for about 5 or 10 minutes. Sometimes it throws up a Machine Check Exception BSOD or a A clock interrupt not recieved by second CPU BSOD.

I tried different hard drives, removed sticks of memory and still got the same issue. Have a decent PSU with plenty of power for my rig.

This points to CPU or Mobo. Is it likely to be the mobo? Any way I can check?

Or should I RMA both the CPU and Mobo?

I reset the BIOS to default fail safe settings, so it's no longer overclocked. However I will check vcore to make sure its correct. (fingers crossed its something simple like that!)

Have you looked at the HD for possible performance issues, is it possible to run HD Tune and see if this throws up any problems, also try a fresh install on a partition if possible.

You say the vcore is correct, do you mean its on auto or stock settings? A cpus does not have a correct vcore setting they will have a min and a max and with a o/c you need to find a stable setting.

I cant boot into any OS and cant do a fresh install. Always dies before I get to do that.
I tried auto vcore, changed a range of voltages with the same result. It is not overclocked anymore either. Also cooling is fine. I also ran a hard disk diagnostic which showed nothing.
Besides my system has been running fine since last year and I have not altered anything etc. Occasional freezes and then the Machine Check Exception error.

Turns out the motherboard was indeed the issue. Overclockers have been great with the RMA. I now have a lovely working machine once again!
