Possible project: tailgater deterrent

A former colleague of mine is actually working on a venetian-blind type affair with a Surveillance Camera warning sign and the words "Tailgate Camera Equipped Vehicle - see yourself tonight on www.tailgatecamuk.com". He's currently evaluating the legal ramifications of actually rigging up the camera and putting tailgaters on the web. The camera kit he's looking at using is the Roadhawk which is a self-contained unit that records location, speed and accelleration/decelleration as G-force. For £200 you can't complain really.

In tests he can cause multiple car emergency braking maneouvres across three lanes of the motorway. 99.9% of people caught are driving BMW's unsurprisingly.

tie a peice of dog **** onto the boot of your car with the string beeing as many feet as you want the person behind you to be.

once your moving at speed it will be dangling in the wind waiting for a windscreen to get close enough

I used to work in the highstreet electrical store we all know. I was once selling a guy an invertor for his car, I asked him what for. He said he wants to wire up a strobe light in his car, thinking this was odd I asked why, he told me he wanted to use it on tailgaters....

I imagine there would be legal ramifications for deliberately dazzling / attempting to induce a seizure in another driver. :p

I don't see why that would be illegal, I don't really see how it would be any different to those cars that use a camera for a rear view mirror...

It's not the camera that he's concerned about, it's revealing people's registration numbers and potentially identities on a website. There are data protection concerns about blanking out the number plates of people caught on camera that aren't tailgating for example. It could be huge amounts of work as well as entertainment.

Ahh, I see, the whole numberplate thing. I think google streetview had similar problems, but they appear to have blanked out all the number plates on streetview, automatically done with software I imagine.... It may be worth getting your friend to ask google about the legalities of streetview, as it will probably be covered by similar rules. I think the videos would be great however, even with blurred plates.
