Essentially what I have done with my last two sets of storage drives is to buy an internal one for my data, and then back up what I want to an identical model in an external caddy.

I currently have 2x1GB WD Black's but these are filling up fast.

I have noticed that there are 1.5TB drives out there but am unsure what to do. Should I buy another set of 1GB drives and an extra caddy? Or should I wait until drives of even larger capacity appear on the market? Is there any gossip about the latter question? I know there are 1.5TB models..

Yep he does.

I don't think there are any 2TB+ drives that have been announced yet unfortunately.

I have a very similar hard drive set up to you - 500GB for storage, identical 500GB in IcyBox for backup. These will both be replaced with a 1.5TB after Christmas.

500GB is not hard to fill up, so going from 1TB to 1.5TB really isn't that much of an increase. Maybe wait it out until 2TB?

If you're strapped for memory and need it RIGHT this minute then yes go for the 1.5TB ones. If not then just wait till they release a newer bigger one.
