Possible to outgrow gaming?

I've been playing games for a large part of my life but now I find myself getting increasingly infuriated by games after very little gameplay.

Fifa 12 has resulted in me breaking many a controller, the latest happening just five minutes ago.

Nowadays though I find myself getting angry at games even after the most mediocre of annoyances, Mario Kart etc etc just aggravate me to such an extent I just give up or throw the thing (controller/console)

Is this a sign I've outgrown gaming?

Obviously I'm lacking the MAD SKILLZ that others seem to have but I don't even want to hone them to become beast at a game.

Thoughts, opinions and similar stories plz OcUKers <3

You're not growing out of it, you're just getting less tolerant. For me, it's either brilliant, or it's been a waste of my time these days.

Plus there are more exciting things in life as you get older that limit your attention span on gaming, like socialising and boobs.

Sounds like you just need to chill the hell out ;-)

Everyone rages to a certain extent, some more eccentric than others.

Oh, and "outgrow" and "gaming" do not belong in the same sentence :D:p

I’ve been playing Video games since the first Atari systems were released into people’s homes.

As the years have gone by I’ve been either totally addicted and would do nothing more then play video games to being not even interested at all. I’m now at the point in my life where I’m a dad to a 3 week old baby girl and I still play video games but my focus has changed. I enjoy playing games where you can have a quick half hour instead of concentrating for hours and hours.

Recently I’ve not played much at all, I normally play a little bit of GT5 or something on my laptop with my daughter asleep in my lap, I can normally play something like Trine 2 or Dirt 3 with a 360 controller whilst she sleeps, meaning I can keep my eye on her but still have a little chill out.

I guess this is the key for me now, after hours at work, going home and helping my girlfriend around the house, it gets to something like 10pm and the gf normally crashes and I’ve got a couple of hours for ‘me time’ and I just grab Abbie (my daughter) and play something to chill me out..

I don’t think you grow out gaming, more your attention and focus changes…. I’m still looking forward to Mass Effect 3, and I did recently play Uncharted 3 for many hours..

Raging in video games is something that happened to me as well, I just stopped for a few months and did something else... For me now, gaming is chill out. If I get stuck I move to another game. Reason I like racing games like Dirt or GT5... Lovely to chill out with.

I havent outgrown gaming, If i had a consistant high wage coming in and didnt ever have to leave the house. You'd better believe I'd do it constantly.

Hell my days would consist of Gaming, Sex and TV. With the Odd energy drink thrown in.

UNfortunately thats not how my life works.

I get to work, Sleep and watch TV. Sex if i'm lucky, Gaming if I'm not :p

Firstly, don't play Fifa. Go and play some real football if you like football.

Secondly, you're probably just playing the wrong games - maybe try something a bit slower paced but that requires more thought, like a stealthy shooter, RPG or RTS?

Try a new genre - Ive falling out of love with FPSes a while ago, so ended up playing more RPGs and the like and just find I enjoy SP games just as much

Just worry when you wont have the time to play and your responsibilities/focus changes...

ps3ud0

I seem to have a shorter attention span now and have little desire to spend ages customising my kit, choosing perks or whatever it is, I just like to pick something up and have a blast and leave it.

Back when Doom and Quake were new releases they were something like i'd never seen before and exciting strange new worlds, I actually used to jump playing Doom. At my mates house playing Doom in the dark once (I think it was the first time I played it, my mate said "you'll LOVE this" with a grin on his face) his pedestal fan suddenly threw it's guard off and I totally **** myself. Since then it's just been very similar but with improving graphics.

I need a good story now and none of this 'go here..now go here..go back here..' RAGE type rubbish. Eye candy is nice but it has to draped over a good game. Or FSX, that still keeps me absorbed, and old arcade and Amiga games.

Sometimes I'll go through a phase where I have so many great games to play but I just cannot be arsed. Take a break for a couple of weeks and you'll soon get back into it. :)

I used to play every day in my teens, just don't get the time for it now at the grand old age of 27 :p

On average I manage to squeeze a couple of hours in a week if that tbh.

When I was about 13, I could play on my Amiga or SNES from the moment I woke to to the moment I went to bed. Then at 16/17 girls and the pub came along and gaming took a back seat althought I don't think I was ever without a gaming platform of some kind. I started to get back into games at about 26/27 and now I play quite a few games. My gaming is helped massively by the fact that I don't really watch TV.

I haven't outgrown gaming but have just play one game regularly (BF3 for me, on from BC2) I have probably put about 10 hours in forza 4 since release but BF3 I play for an hour about every other night. I used to play a variety of games but now it takes something special to get me interested and it has to play even better to keep my attention for more than 5 minutes!

But then again, i'm not much of a rager. I may have occasional 'you utter *#£**!!!' moment but its just the moment...my friend on the other hand who i'm sure will read this tends to bump his head on the moon :p and I know that Fifa has made him it's bitch on several occasions lol

Sounds like you have developed anger management issues dude... :|
This. Doesn't sound like you have outgrown anything, if anything the complete opposite and sounds more like you need to grow up. You really shouldn't be getting that worked up about a game, if you are then do something else that doesn't get you so worked up.

Its not gameing that I have fallen out with, its the new generation of gamers.
I come from a time when camping on counter strike earns you a ban.
Now I jump on a CoD and 90% are kids hiding behind claymores in dark rooms

I used to be able to play mediocre or even bad games for hours without getting bored, and regularly played for 10 hours only stopping for toilet :o.

Now there's few games I can play for more than 10 mins without getting bored, and only play an hour a day on average. It's not growing out of gaming as such, just tastes changing, plus theres other stuff to do now. I used to play gran turismo for stupid amounts of time, but now if I want some driving fun just go down some b roads in my real car. Granted its no ferrari, but still more fun then watching a screen.
