Possible to replace standard bulbs with LED?

Arggh I knew this day would come! I never stocked up on the old pearl 40 and 80w bulbs believing all the hype about those energy saver bulbs. Dam things  I have replaced loads ever since we started using them years ago, they always go the same way! The casing burns and then they go black and fail.

So a few weeks back I stumble upon those halogen led things! They seem ok and were the only ones I could find compatible with dimmer switches, well almost compatible as they still flicker a bit on certain settings. Time will tell if they last a good length of time.

Finally replaced all my 50w spot for 3w LED. 1050w down to 63w in the kitchen dining area. Should save a few Bob over the next few years. Give off a decent light:

Well I've been having a chat with a chap from a lightbulb company today.

Based on my needs (one large room - one lightbulb socket from the ceiling in the centre of the room), he's said that LED technology isn't quite there yet.

Instead he's suggested a 2 part energy saving spiral bulb, it doesn't mean a lot to me but the manufacturer code is SP252PKOS if anyone wants to take a gander.

It's a 25W bulb that gives the equivalent of 125W apparently, there is a 30W that does the equivalent of 150W as well!

Has anyone tried anything like that, if so how have you found it?

It will be in a room primarily for working in rather than relaxing so good consistent light (not a horrible colour, and not flickering) is a must.

I need some advice on this, I have 4 LED Gu10s at the moment and frankly they are useless, can someone recommend some bright ones?

look for '27 x 5050smd' - 6W in cool, warm or day white shades.

I got four (cool white) in a spotlight unit to replace a single 18W energy saver. The room appears brighter, but that maybe because I can now direct light where it's needed.

Mine actually came from Amazon, but the seller does have their own website where it's easier to pick out a bulb.

I've just bought these for experimentation in my computer side of the living room - http://www.brightlightz.co.uk/produ...-3528-smd-chips-in-warm-white-40w-50w-halogen
If they're not as bright then I'm not too bothered because I don't like it too bright anyway.

Question -
Looking at this site - http://www.brightlightz.co.uk which are the LEDs that replace normal bayonet bulbs? (looks like the G9 ones).

Which are the ones that would replace our kitchen lights which are reflector spotlights 50mm?

Which make/model bulbs did you use? I could handle that light - it's not a harsh bluey-white.

Apologies for the Necro - did we ever reach a conclusion on the best LEDs to go for? Spit, how did you get on with yours now you've had them a while? Which did you go for in the end?

Hi guys, sorry for missing the replies. I got the 80 LED GU10's off eBay. Chose the warm white ones. Been very pleased so far. They give off about 90% of the light that the previous ones did but I have to say it is a more pleasant light. It is not a spot its a more even light.

Just had a look and it seems he has zero for sale at the moment. His ebay id is Led-Lamps

They are not branded just generic. I am sure they were about £6.50 each.

I picked up one of these to test yesterday, putting it in with 3 other GU10 halogens and the light colour was almost identical, very much a warm white. The angle is pretty good too with the bulbs being flush in the ceiling there is sufficient space to throw the light.
I was really impressed at how good they were, and preferable for me to those multi-led bulbs.
