Hello all

I’m after some advice if possible. I’m hoping to upgrade my son’s PC for Christmas, I think a gpu/cpu upgrade is what he needs. He mostly plays DayZ,Hell let loose and World of Warcraft. His friends play other games like cyberpunk/pubg, but he thinks his PC will struggle as he plays medium settings on his current games and get’s issues . Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Sadly a new PC isn’t possible. Cheers guys

Gigabyte a320m-h am4 motherboard
WD Green 480gb m.2 internal ssd
32gb ram Corsair
Msi gforce gtx 1660 super vented xs 6gb
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 am4 cpu
Aero cool cyclon 600w psu
Eg rub 3 x fan set
Also added Samsung 1T of ssd

this is the best you will do for £400, update the bios to be able to take the cracking 5700x3d, and the 8GB 3050 is better than the 6GB 1660 super, both use a single 8 pin power connector, so that is an easy swap out/in
My basket at OcUK:

Total: £399.98 (includes delivery: £0.00)

For a gaming machine would i see much improvement going from a ryzen 9 3900x to am 4s best gaming cpu ? i also have a 2080 super gpu, tempted for an upgrade, but i think i may wait till early 2025 for amds top chip and the new nvidia 5000 series

Thx for the reply, around £400
You could add a Ryzen 5600 to the 6750 XT I suggested (or a Ryzen 5700X/5800X, though I think likely to be outside of your budget).

You can check TPU's database for the improvement to the GPU here (about half way down the page there's a little bar chart), this video tells you something for the CPU:

With a 2080 Super, probably not, though it depends on the resolution and the specific games that you play. E.g. MMOs at 1080p? Yes. Single player games at 4K? Not so much. If you get a card a lot faster than the 2080 Super it would be highly recommended.

I could push it to £500 if I would make a considerable difference to his gaming….thx again pal

Brill I’ll take a look, thank you m8

It is hard to say for sure, because it partly depends on where the demand is on the CPU versus GPU for the games he will play and what the monitor is.

For example: a 7800 XT (~£400) and a 5600 (~£100) would be great for 1440p with graphically demanding games.

Whereas, I suspect a game like World of Warcraft (..especially at 1080p) would be better off with a 6750 XT (~£300) and a 5700X3D (~£200).

This video is not related to the parts you will buy, BUT it gives a good indication about the pros/cons, because the decision you have to make is pretty similar in nature:

You would be wise to get a decent PSU if you upgrade your GPU as the Aero cool cyclon 600w is a budget unit and a GPU like the 6750xt will push it hard.

It’s not an easy decision with my limited knowledge lol, the more I research the more confused I get ha,so many different combo’s ‍♂️…..I managed to get a great deal (John pie) on a Samsung 49” qled curved monitor a while back for him. He plays mostly DayZ at the moment and that is at 1080. Appreciate the help

A 49" monitor is 4K isn't it? That must look pretty ropey playing at 1080p :o

If you have a 2080 super that you can do without for now then definately go for the 5700x3d, and swap your, and his cards around, just to keep you functional IMHO

Gpu most expensive part of a build. I'd go more expensive gpu and save up for cpu later...if monitor is hi res ultrawide, playing at native will be less demanding on cpu, more on gpu.
If goung cpu, pick one up 2nd hand, not new
Can with gpu also. Say a nice 7800xt for £320 on mktplace recently

It’s set in 3840x1080x32 full screen , looks ok other than the obvious gfx issue with distance etc
A 6750 XT and Ryzen 5600 would be fine at that resolution, but personally I'd prioritise the graphics card, even if it meant not buying a new CPU. Though, if he spends a lot of time playing WoW, WoW likes the X3D CPUs a lot.

I wasn’t aware you could buy second hand CPU’s for some reason lol….ill look now,thx pal
