Hi All,
Could someone who is much more knowledgeable than me advise of any possible upgrade to my CPU please.
I currently have an AMD Phenom II XT 1090t (I know AMD, but money….). I’ve had this for at least 8 years. I only use my PC for iRacing and a bit of web design so don’t need anything ground-breaking, just wondering if there was a worthwhile upgrade in the £50 - £100 range?
The motherboard is an ASUS Crosshair IV Formula which I believe is an AM3 socket. I’ve updated other main parts of the system over the years to the following:
1050ti
16GB Ram
SSD
Apparently, iRacing is fairly CPU intensive so I definitely think my old CPU is the bottleneck at the moment. Any ideas would be much appreciated!
I think you're out of luck on that platform. Iracing is a heavy single threaded application and there is no CPU on AM3 platform which will outperform your 1090t in single threaded applications by any significant margin. FX-8150 might be a small step up but your best bet would be to overclock 1090t as far as you can. You should be able to get around 4-500mhz more out of it, but it won't be a big improvement.
Best advice is to save up and get the upcoming Zen 2 CPU & platform, preferably one with high base clock rate, if you're not in overclocking. Iracing is all about single core speed and it's likely that it will remain like this for a few years more.
