I think it does make a difference.

Regardless what the individual might think, there are people who post solely to increase their post count. Anything that can be used as a measure against someone else (in this case, post count) will inevitably be used by some as a form of competition. Some might say it was human nature.

I'm guilty of it myself. Wondering how people have so many posts so quickly and what their motive is; or seeing a post from someone that is pretty shocking and thinking "dude, with that many posts you should know better".

I went for Infrequently/Does Change as it's the only one that really fits my view.

Pancake for me.

Name means most, personally.

If I like a post/agree with someone I check their name and usually remember it. Same if I dislike someones post/disagree I usually have a look. If their name is not known to me then I check join date and post count to kind of verify their post as such.

If they post nothing interesting, relevant, funny I generally won't bother looking who they are regardless.

This gives me a good balance of quality of poster/postings against quantity.

I think it's fair to say you can get idiots at 1 post and 100,000 posts in theory; but practically if someone's "survived" here for a long time they clearly (1) fit in with the community - ish :p and (2) are somewhat more trustworthy than a 0day-er.

It doesn't make much difference in GD of course, but it's a handy pointer when deciding who to buy from in MM, for example...

Crikey, first poll I've ever seen on here which is even on pretty much all counts, I know its early days but still.

just a trust thing really...say you wanted to buy a 4 pack in a new game, how are we meant to know who the new people are ?
whats to stop people from just making new accounts and scamming others....less likely to happen if the person had been a member for a few years and had a few thousand posts behind them. it just wouldnt be worth making the effort over x amount of years to scam people over.

i tend to check out a persons post count when it comes to the mm to see how long they've been here and how active they are, usually a good indication if they are respectable (if they have a 0 trust rating)

Its not often I take much notice of peoples post counts. Probably because I spent a decent amount of time lurking before joining up and knowing who the helpful members are with high post counts as opposed to those who just post rubbish. I would imagine its mainly newer members who benefit from the post count. Maybe dropping the post count and having some sort of star rating for members is a better option (if possible?). Find a post helpful and you can give it the thumbs up, more thumbs up a user has the higher their rating is. Similar to 5* threads.

If i'm buying or selling in MM then I usually take a look at the persons post count. Other than that it means nothing to me and I can't say i'm one for sitting on here trying to make my post count higher. Got better things to do with my life if i'm honest.

I think the Joined date is much more influential than Posts count though together they can give a very general picture.

Someone who joined in June 2010 with a post count of 5,000 needs to go get some fresh air and get laid.

thats my take on things too :)

I find most of the time having a high post count never leads to people "trusting it or seeing it as worth more" but generally used as a cheep insult "hah you have no life" kinda stuff.
