Post in here if you're a Red Dwarf fan

"Lister to Red Dwarf. The intruder seems to be blissfully unaware that we have a rather sturdy holowhip in the munitions cabinet. Unless he wants his derriere minced like burger meat, he'd better be history in two seconds flat!"

"Binks to Enlightenment. Re-con mission complete, transmit. With speed, Enlightenment, quickly please!"

Loved Red Dwarf, and the books too, I did some clearing up the other day and found the first book, completely worn and battered from reading it so many times :)

Rimmer- "What happened to my life? Career, prospects, friends. I had everything, and I threw it all away. It's a tragedy."

Lister- "What are you on about? You had none of that stuff."

Rimmer- "You're right. I had none of that stuff. I had absolutely nothing and I threw it all away. It's an even bigger tragedy."

Rimmer really is one of the greatest characters ever created imo!

I had to drive to Anglesey on Tuesday and back home on Wednesday. So I got the unabridged version of "Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers" audiobook which last me pretty much the whole jounrey there and back. Chris Barrie does a great job reading the book and brining it to life, especially woth his impressions of the characters likel Lister and Holly.

The book is darker in places comapred to the TV show, especially when they are trapped in "Better Than Life" and what Kryten had to do to help them get out.

"He smashed his fist down on the table. His fist passed soundlessly through the grey metal desktop and crashed with astonishing force into his testicles. As he lay in a foetal position squealing on the floor, he wished he was dead. Then he remembered he already was."

Doug’s story (as relayed on the BtE commentary) is that they wanted to have Holly (played by Norm) in BtE, but the matter was very much dependent on whether or not they had the budget to do three episodes rather than two (he couldn’t really fit Holly into things if there were only two). This question was drawn out over some time, as BtE was made on a threadbare budget and it was unclear for a long time exactly what they could and couldn’t afford to do. At some point, Norm rang Doug/GNP and said that he needed to know one way or the other whether they were using him, and they had until the end of that day to give a definite answer because otherwise he was going to take another job. At that point they still couldn’t confirm whether it was two episodes or three… so Norm decided to take the other job. Then, of course, it turned out afterwards that they probably could have accommodated him, but it was too late.

Norm’s story is that he was told he was definitely going to be in it, given dates to put in his diary, and then after a long period of stringing him along, he got “a pathetic little email” telling him he wasn’t in it after all.

It’s really up to you which of the two stories you believe; although I think it’s quite telling about the two men that while Doug has continually (and as recently as this last weekend) said that he’d be happy to have Norman back if he was willing to come back, Norm has spent his time penning spite-filled invectives about the affair on Myspace and on Certain Red Dwarf Fansites (Ahem), and saying he’ll “never have anything to do with Red Dwarf again”. Unless it involves using it to sell tickets to his stand-up shows.

So yeah, two different stories about what happened but eaither way, Lovett was not best pleased:p I think the truth is probably somwhere in the middle but one thing you cant deny is that Lovett seemed to handle it rather unprofessionally.

So far there have been 3 reasons in the press why there is no Holly in these programmes that are being shown over Easter on the Dave channel. 1 No budget 2 Didn't want the crew dragging a computer around with them on earth 3 A water leak caused a short circuit and caused the computer to break down.

This gives you an idea of what the people who make Red Dwarf (GrantNaylor) are like and you will be able to read all about them and the cast in my auto biography which I am working on as I speak. I watched Chris, Robert and Danny on BBC Breakfast News this morning. Talk about laughs take a holiday.

I will be watching the shows but I really don't see how it will be any good because it's not shot in front of a studio audience and they're not trapped on board Red Dwarf which was it's main strength when it was character comedy.

Everything is done by one man (Naylor) and he can't do everything well. Bring back Grant and get a good director (Bye) and it might have stood a chance. And Holly with some good gags of course.

Not one of the cast have got in touch with me which just shows how self centred they are. I'm not bitter just unhappy about the way I have been treated by them. By the way GrantNaylor you still owe me money for the Red Dwarf movie rehearsals.

It's a shame, really. Holly was a fantastic character. Also despite his rants, he was bang on about BtE ;)

Craig and Chris pretty much hated each other for the first few series. They seemed to start getting along around series 6 iirc from the commentaries.

That one is a corker! A clear victory for Lister and arguably the most clear-cut demonstration of his superior intellect. Red Dwarf just rules.

Yeah Dave have been showing every series backwards from 9 to 1, I only realised a few days ago. It's something to do with the first episode being titles 'The End', whilst the last eposide of RDX is...... The beginning.

hmm lol

God knows how many times I have seen each one, but I decided to watch them all again as there is a new one coming out.

Obviously I love it, but wow there are some awful episodes!! Soimetimes it just makes so little sense that it really gets in the way for me. this is pretty much what I thought

Series 1 and 2 are totally solid, except for the episode Parallel Universe which I have to skip.
Series 3 is pretty bad actually. Marooned and The Last Day are great, all the others are weak imo. I can enjoy Backwards and Polymorth, but I have to just ignore a lot of BS! I usually skip Bodyswap and Timeslides
Series 4 is fairly strong. Camille, Justice and Dimension Jump are great, Meltdown is good, not a fan of DNA or White Hole(just for one bit that really grates me)
Series 5- Skip Inquisitor and Demons and Angels. Terrorform is good, but annoys me the way they just state that Rimmer can be harmed. Quarantine, Holoship and Back To reality are all excellent.
Series 6- Not a moment wasted. All top quality.
Series 7- Tikka to Ride is not great, Stoke ME a Clipper is redeemable for the intro. I have to skip Ouroborous, or I will try to physically harm myself! ... the rest of the series is great, even without Rimmer imo.
Series 8- Gets a lot of stick, but I think it is actually quite strong. Not a fan of Krytie TV or the last episode though...and I can take or leave the 'Pete' episodes.

I love it, but some of the writing is truly awful! ...and much of it makes little sense. I find that I have to ignore quite a bit to enjoy it tbh. I think the biggest problem is that a lot of the lines and actions of the characters do not fit them a lot of the time. It is like an episode is written and then the Red Dwarf characters are just shoe-horned in to it.(yes I have thought about this far too much....I have the scripts around here somewhere which I got ages ago!).

Lister: Back off, Pete Tranter's sister! I know what you're after: it's moist and pink and it's inside my head. And that's where it's staying.
Pete Sister: Oh come on, Dave. You know what you want. You want to squeeze my buttocks together to make one juicy giant peach.
Lister: I get it. You're trying to make me drown in my own drool. Well, it won't work.

:D
