Post your 5820k overclock

Also, maybe that 4.2 is the highest asus's software auto tunes to ?

(what i meant was, if the asus sw can clock to 4.2 it makes sense to me from a builder/sellers pov that that's a good oc and is likely going to stay stable, hope that makes sense)

Still at 4.7 here nice n stable, i got my ram at 3000 now (it's 3200 rated) was at 2400 on 100x45

So now i'm on 125x38 and all's well

No pic but i just tried cinebench R15 and got 1395 cb and on single core 186 cb

No idea if that's decent as not used cinebench recently

Imao, don't think the tech lads need software to OC a CPU.

Maybe 8pack should give it ago.:p

well it does go higher on auto doesnt it.

on asus boards it is so easy. auto oc it asks you what pc configuration you want gaming so on. select what cooling you are using then go.

it will oc reboot then just go back in bios up the multiplier to x45 .most new chips with decent cooling will do 4.5ghz. which will take minutes.

Lol OLDPHART

Had to wipe tea spittle off my aging monitor lol

Well, they ship em at 4.2 end of lol

Yeah i can just picture 8packs face after someone suggests to him to use a software util to smash oc records hehe

I am always a bit wary of softwares auto overclocking features as I had an fx8350 before on a ROG asus board and used the auto overclock "tuning" thing as they called it and it set the vcore at a much higher value than it needed. Generated an extra 10 degrees of heat idle and load.

Just worries me that some people may do it but have the mindset to check everything like we all do.

I should have said 4.75 not 4.7

Using 125x38 allows me now to run 3200 ram at 3000

This next bit is really strange ..........

Stable benched @ 4.75 ......... gaming also fine

I had vcore set at 1.367 in bios so i could work backwards to lower volts as such, now usually i always over many years have seen a droop in CPUz compared to bios vcore .........

CPUz showed exact same, so i upped to 125x39 for 4.875

Almost finished a cinebench run then locked up, now back on W10 pro so i get nice bsod with it collating data etc, well on reboot i shutdown pc, turned off psu and hit power button to drain capacitors ............

Now the weird part, after adjusting my pump that i use velcro to keep where i want it, i turned psu back on, powered up ...........

I went into bios to drop back down to 4.75, now to even get into windows i had to raise the vcore lol, so after a few benches i rebooted and checked previous saved bios setups

I bejiggered if i didn't have to up each and everyone i tried !! now that's weird

Anyways, after shopping run i'm gonna get 4.875 solid then try for anything over it

id like a safe 24/7 stable OC.. something like 4.5ghz
I reseated my cooler tonight so hoping its helped with temps.
im about to run a real bench now
1.25 strap @4500mhz
ram @ 2666mhz (xmp off)
everything else on auto

Temps are fine for stress testing, <80c is good for stress tests.

If you're happy with 4.5 I'd leave it at that or you can try manually lowering the voltage and see if it will do 4.5 at lower volts.

I hear you

I jumped right in from an i7 920 x58 setup (damn what a great cpu that's been)

I was panicking at not getting a 3.8 stable, then as i learned and read up a bit well it all fell into place

I am chuffed at 4.7 solid, weird my 4.8 was aida64 stable, but booting into x-plane 10 at the second loading (airport choose screen) the cursor stopped then worked, got from heathrow to eham (cant rem airports real name so that's the code lol)

Then boom, bsod 101 error

But heck i am solid stable like yourself at 4.7 and i am totally chuffed still hehe
hi i got mine set at 4.4ghz and its not stable for me. it crashes randomly and is et my volates to around 1.21 and no joy
