i dont know the law these days has that got to be restricted to 33 bhp for 2 years??

amx is 25, so as long as he's done Direct Access, no, no restriction.

I did the Direct Access, so a full 70bhp of two-wheeled fun for me :D

I'm gonna get myself on a bikesafe course and do some advanced training at some point.

I pick it up tomorrow :D

MINT '01 Fazer 1000 - the price is high, but it's got a Thatcham cat1 alarm, a bellypan, crash bobbins, a Akrapovic exhaust, a very tasteful custom paint job, and only has 4,000 miles on it, it's been in my family circle since it was new, and I'm getting an excellent trade in price on the Z.

Can't wait :D

Lol, you trade in quicker than me! Hown long did you have the Z750? Looking for more torque?

Fazer looks nice though - unusual colour scheme

Partly - my girlfriend rides pillion a lot now, and we're planning on some touring, and I want to tour alone too. I needed a bike more suitable. One with a better seat, wind protection and that I can load up with luggage, while still being fun. The Fazer is all of those

It's in unbelievable condition too :)

Mohinder you should have considered a VFR! But none the less nice bike mate, make sure you get the proper hard luggage Givi/Kappa are great, i know top boxes look awful and panniers not so hot either, but after having one on my bike for a month or so, screw the looks they are far too useful!

I'm almost 100% sure on my luggage - a 52 litre Givi topbox, and two 21 litre side cases - I want to keep the bike as narrow as I can ideally. 94 litres of storage should do me I reckon.

And for the VFR, I really did consider one, my dad's got one and I do really like it. I'm not going to be touring as much as him though, and the Fazer is a bit more of a 'me' bike, I think. Bit cheaper too :)

Fair enough mate sounds like you know exactly what your after, i've got a 36L top box, not sure what to get in the way of panniers, 21L seems a bit small and awkward the way that they are designed but i understand the 36L boxes stickout fairly wide. . . :(

My parents have a pair of 28 litre sidecases and they really like the size. They had 36s on the side but dad just felt a bit like he was driving a bus, the old Blackbird with them on was a monster :D

Seeing as I've only been riding a few months, I want to keep it as narrow as I can, even though it means sacrificing a bit of space. The monster top box should even it out a bit though :)

Must admit I'm getting the touring bug. Was looking today at a Tiger 900, all kitted up with hard luggage. Showroom condition and only £3500. Dont know if I'd miss the sportsbike rush though - ideal solution would be to have 2 bikes!

I'm really looking forward to getting into it. Once I've got it luggaged and GPSed up, it'll hopefully be a great machine for covering miles in relative comfort, but still being a fun bike. I might leave the GPS and use maps, not sure yet. I'm a bit crap at maps but I'm sure I'd get better.

Most of the quotes for power and top speed on the Fazer 1000 are 140bhp and 160mphish, so I shouldn't think I'll be thinking 'I wish it was faster' :D

yeah, to be honest the ZX9 is perfectly capeable of touring - I've just got the 'bug' to want to change. I did 120 miles to a track, 60 miles thrashing round it, and 130 miles back again last week in perfect comfort. Wouldnt be much use with a pillion though.

I can highly recommend GPS. I got the TT Rider, which a lot of poeple complain about but I havent had a problem. To be honest you dont need it much, but just acts as a pointer when you get to junctions you arent sure about. Easier than a map I think, plus its useful for recording where you've been if you install tripmaster, as you can then view your journey on google earth when you get back which is quite cool :)

The fazer is a bike I like the look of - fantastic engine but a relaxed riding position - I just really loved the Tiger 1050 I had a go on at Bruntingthorpe last week - something about that commanding riding position and 3 cylinder engine appeals to me. Had two inline fours so fancy a change to a twin or tripple.

Right . . . I have heard that the older ZXs are comfortable enough to cruise on doing some touring, really you can tour on almost anything just some bikes are better suited!

If your looking for perhaps a second bike for touring try having a look at the following:

Triumph Trophy 900/1200- Very capable bike, good for travelling all day, economical but enough power to shift when it wants to, only really lacking shaft drive. . They can be picked up rather cheaply most with full compliment of triumph luggage etc, the 1200 is the more powerful bike but the 900 is still more than capable.

Triumph Tiger 900 - Another good bike, weight is fairly high up making low speed riding a little 'different' however they will sit and munch miles but are much less up for pure thrashing, a lot come with full compliment of luggage aswell pretty much all Triumph Kit.

Honda Pan European ST1100 - Sometimes drescribed as soleless, but Honda designed these bikes with long distance in mind and they certainly don't disapoint. Very very capable tourer, with the ST1300 out prices have dropped , perfect mile munchers.

Honda VFR800 - Compromise between Sports and touring very much able to hang with the big bikes yet long distances aren't a problem, only let down by Honda's lack of manufacturers luggage on the pre Vtec models. Pre-Vtec engines are known to do over 100k easily.

Hope that helps a little?

If only that were true, we'd all be fine. Whilst I'm on the lower end of the scale at the moment, I can see it happening to me already and it will keep on happening too I think. My dad has a ZX9R (same as Sagalout) and he says he gets to overtaking a car and he's going past thinking in his head "come on! come on! faster!" wondering why it's taking so long... until he looks at the speedo and realises it only took about 3 seconds and he's already over 120mph. I think you become sort of acclimatised to the speed and having a fairing to reduce the effect of wind makes it so much easier to get this way too ;) .

Also here's another (better) picture of my bike that I took recently:

Had just put the new tyres on.
