A couple from my little trip to the lakes on Saturday. Apologies from the crap quality - the camera on my iPhone seems to have gone faulty :(

Was a good blast. 220 miles and the bike was still very comfy when I got home. Should be able to do 300/350 mile days without too much trouble when I go to Scotland later this year.

The lakes are still good for a hoon if you stay away from Windermere/Ambleside/Keswick :)

Yeah thats the watermark she puts the pics she takes (or rather i do as i process them all!!), even though it was me and her shooting this set i just batched them all with her watermark, saves hassle.

I was actually thinking that when my mate got his 07 gsxr 600 but they mount differently, so i might just relocate the indicators to where my side lights currently are and just get some blanking plates for the sides.

The RSV is coming along nicely dude, good to see you pampering her!

DO IT! You won't regret it. And get it done quick, before the paint drops off the fork lowers, SV front end parts sell for more than many GSXR parts! (a whole GSXR750 Y-K3 swap is almost a straight bolt-on, apart from the speedo, and you should be able to get one for less than you sell the SV parts for). And sorting out that front end makes a world of difference. (If I could actually ride, mine would surprise some people, instead it just enables me to keep up with better riders :D)
 
:( Then again, that's part of the reason you get such a great wee bike for barely over 4 grand. Mine looked like the surface of the moon before I replaced them.

I would have gone with you if you wanted the company! I did almost the same route but without the lakes part on my own Saturday. I even stopped in Hawes for a drink, shame I missed you!

Finally found a buyer for the GPZ by the way, so I will have some room in the garage at last!

SV650's are great when riding around at normal/average pace but soon as you try to ride it like a sports bike it shows its cheap budget suspension and its terrible topend. You gotta keep it nice and clean because the finish isnt great.

Whilst I don't think it would cope too well on a track, the suspension is certainly good enough for quite fast road riding. I haven't found it's limits yet except for maybe the rear shock feels a bit bouncy around bumpy corners. But on the whole it's adequate.

Agree on finish, the front forks were pitted when I got the bike so nothing I could really do there and the paint seems a bit thin also.

It's definitely an upgrade from my GPZ500 for the riding I do, but I will be looking to upgrade to a sports 600 some time next year.
 
After my brother had his crash on my old SV, ive now taken it off his hands, and is now undergoing a lot of work to be my track bike :p SRAD front end going on, just waiting custom top bearing from the US, then just need a front wheel lol :p
Also the Rocker cover cracked in the crash so need to source one of them :/

Standard, aye, but you can sort the suspension and have the bike still owe you less than £4500 for a new one. The engine's a matter of taste, if you like the top-end rush it's not for you though, because there isn't one :D But I prefer my SV to any of the "better" bikes I've ridden, none make me laugh as often. Plus, there's a certain charm to taking the mick out of people on R1s, GSXRs etc at trackdays, on a rattly SV that looks like you crashed it on the way to the track :D

I guess it depends on what you are used to. I came from a ZX6R (Same mileage and year, 20,000miles and 1999 respectively) rode an SV650 for about 60miles on roads I knew very well, started off at a slow pace which was quite nice, light and flickable, then started to push a little harder and everything got a little sloppy. The backend was bucking and weaving, the front was just as bad and I wasnt going as fast as I would had on the ZX6R, I had to slow down for my own safety!

Revalve/replace the front and get a decent rear shock then I'm sure its fine but thats the same with any bike :)
 
Fireskull, I can do you a rocker cover in that colour, I've got 2 SV engines in the garage that're gradually being turned into 1 :D Email should be in trust... Twin Works Factory bearing I hope?

Loved it on my donny TD one of the marshalls who was amazing took out a Track ready RD350 Damn that thing could corner so well lol, was flying past all the other novices lol, i could not bear the shame so within 3 laps following him I learn where to corner so I could loose him :D
 
Didnt really want to start another thread, but has anyone else fitted one of the Hairy R's Quick Action throttle?
I saw one going cheap so bought one and when I got it was really doubting what I paid £25 for a 1 inch piece of plastic, but after fitting it :D its the best mod ever for £25! with a bigger rear sprocket 1,2 and 3rd are red line in what seems like warp speed, taking a while to get used to the different throttle angles again so im not rocketing everywhere.
But even how amazing it is for blasting, its amazing for crusing aswell, in any gear just a 1 cm turn of the throttle is enough for doing the speed limit, 6th for 80mph seems like i only just twitch the throttle to get there, so much easier on hand fatigue.
 
Yeah, I've done the same thing with an R6 throttle tube, which drops the throttle from 1/4 to 1/5 throw. Very nice for comfort. The throttle's still no faster than my hand so the response is identical, but not having to twist the wrist as much is very nice.
