From the years I spent in Hong Kong I don't recall it as being a city where driving a car is that much of a necessary requirement. Are there any roads where you could stretch the legs of a high powered car? Admittedly I never really went up into the New territories, that may have some potential.
Not in the island or Kowloon. There may be a few in the New Territories but even then it won't be a long road as you can get a mini bus from the very top to Stanley (the very bottom), through underwater tunnel, the cities and traffic lights in around 90min !
Saying that, i saw a orange lamborghini Gallardo one night, but it was dark and by the time i got my camera settings for it, it had moved on.
I did notice 1 trend in HK.
Most people drives Toyota, not just japanese cars, which is expected, but Toyotas. The entire taxi fleet for a start are Toyotas - "Crown Comfort" and LPG converted.
If you have money, you buy a Mercedes.
I say those 2 brands took up as much as 2/3 of the cars on the road. The rest are mostly other Japanese, some VW, BMW and Audi's. I saw no Vauxhall or Opel. I also saw no Ford either, so there was not a single Mondeo, Focus or Fiestas in sight. I did see a Pug 206 on the last day though!
You are right though, almost every where can be access by public transport. The MTR is very efficient, missed one and another one in 5 min MAX. They are also really cheap, 10 days I spent less than £20 in public transport. And if you need a car from the MTR station to somewhere local, taxi are cheap too. £5 can get you a lonnnnnnng way !
Oh, Petrol are not that much different to here, works out about £1.20/£1.30 per Litre but Diesel are cheaper than petrol.
