Post Your Daily Encounter Pics Here

It's got the big electric motor where the engine would be in a normal car, and various gubbins between the rear axle, resembling a petrol tank.

I was wondering if it's not got a engine and drive line dictating the need for a bonnet etc, then why not design something actually different. But no, it's just a regular car with an electric 'engine' in it's place.

“The”?

There’s a compact concentric motor electric motor at each end and hence no tunnel for a prop or exhaust, batteries between the wheels and power electronics above.

Gubbins between the rear axle?

It’s quite a different car in the line up compared to what Audi ETron and Merc EQC have done.

Anyway variety is the spice of life.

This is clearly BS, look at how short the bonnet is and how far forward the passenger cabin is, i suggest you research before you post otherwise you look like an idiot.
Looks pretty standard to me. The cabin might be a tad more forward than regular cars, but the dash is HUGE and extends back a long way. You sit almost in the middle of the car. It's got a transmission hump between the rear seats, yet no transmission, or exhaust. The boot isn't especially massive and is limited in height.

So, please - explain to me how the shape, cabin, boot space etc is radically different to any other car?

Undoubtedly it's a nice car with some nice styling, but it's really not much different any other car on the market.

I see your concerns but the front overhang is short. 3m wheelbase is massive for a 4.7m car. The small hump is for the main harness and structure for the floor. (This is a 36kN/mm car). The ball of drivers foot to wheel is very short so the dash being long is due to the screen being pushed forward rather than driver pushed basckwards. Reality the iPad style touch screen is what’s needed to realise the feeling of space and allow the dash to move whilst keeping the screen within reach - Also like an i3. But the interior design preference is the more integrated screen.

Basically you get a Cayenne interior in a car the size of a Macan.

Find me another all electric car on the market with genuine off-road capability.

Hint, the Model X gets stuck on a slightly grassy hill.
I'm talking purely about the styling. Not about ability, or driving, or range or anything else. Styling. In fact, I was responding to this exact line:
It’s a bespoke aluminium intensive car with proportions not constrained by engine and driveline packaging
Because, although it may be unconstrained (a little) by traditional engine and driveline packaging, it sure as hell doesn't make use of it.

It would be nice to push the cabin right to the front, no bonnet at all. Just have the windscreen end at the nose of the car. The sensation of speed and the visibility would be amazing. I guess it needs some kind of crumble zone though :D

But manufacturers do seem to be clinging to the traditional car shape and kind of bodging it to fit batteries in. I suppose they don't want to take risks.
This, they are pushing some bits a little more forward, or back, or wherever, but it's not a huge change.

Look at the (failed) GM Hywire. If there were truly no engine/drivetrain constrains that's what we should get. But we get a car with a slightly shorter bonnet and a huge dash, for no apparent reason. And a small, high boot. And a transmission hump.

Yeah, it's got some improvements, but it's still just small differences. As a comparison, my 2006 Legacy estate is 100mm longer than the I pace, with a 300mm longer wheelbase. 4.8m long and a 2.7m wheelbase. The rear overhang on my car is massive too - it's got to be 500mm at least, and the I pace has barely any rear overhang. My car will also fit 4 adult blokes, me at 6ft 3in driving, 2 more also at 6ft 2/3in and one at 5ft 11. With comfort. That's not a huge amount of change in 12 years (actually 15 years as my car model was release in 2003) and with the removal of a lump of a 3 litre, 6 cylinder engine and a massive transmission, etc.

Like I said, it's nice and I quite like the styling, it's a little different. But it's not as radically different as it could be. :)

Obviously the caveat here is that cars have gotten bigger and therefore space on a similar size car to mine would now be much less. But I stand by my opinion that it's an evolution rather than a big change.

Cars getting bigger is an annoyance of mine - why does the I pace have 22" wheels? if there's a good reason, fair enough. But come on, 22 inches!!!

22" wheels is an odd one! Smaller are typically more efficient. Wonder if it's to accommodate some brake tech?

There’s all sorts of European and federal tests not even around when your Subaru was made. Small offset barrier impact a good example!

22 is cos Callum likes big wheels, just like F Pace. Nothing engineering based:D

I PACE has 18, 20 & 22 options.

Just been looking at the options, will make a nice upgrade in 3 - 4 years time, shame no-one will buy the 300ps engine.
It’s not a nice engine really. Drove an E-pace with it and it doesn’t suit the car at all.

Prob order the new one once the family discount is available. I must be old as I prefer the Evoque over the M3 for the daily stuff.

A few from over the past week that I haven't got round to uploading until now...

Note the fake rivets around the panel connections.

Not seen in this picture is the RS front grille which doesn't actually look that bad.

I assumed it was an ST, but nope.

A fiesta weighs 1550kgs is more shocking
That's not the weight of the car. You think a Merc saloon weighs 2350kg?!:p

That's the Maximum Authorised Mass, or Gross Vehicle Weight.

Maximum authorised mass (MAM) means the weight of a vehicle or trailer including the maximum load that can be carried safely when it’s being used on the road.

This is also known as gross vehicle weight (GVW) or permissible maximum weight.

It will be listed in the owner’s manual and is normally shown on a plate or sticker fitted to the vehicle.

That fiesta is about 1100kg.
