Is the DJ Console any cop then?
Am toying with buying one atm.

obviously its not as good as having propper decks but its good how you can play any MP3 in your collection. Beat mixing is pretty good and it can do it auto, scratching isnt great though and I wouldnt really reccomend it for Hip-hop. You can get a free trial of the Virtual DJ software, all the console is is an external set of controls with a soundcard built in, but the spinny wheel can be good for finding cue points etc.

I know its not really related to the thread but, i need a little advise of you all, am looking into buying some dj equipment, but some of my mates use vinyl and some use cd, so which are the easiest to use - or which are just better ?? Am only a beginner so i thought second hand decks would the best way to start off ! if i was to go with vinyl, is belt driven or direct drive decks better to start off with ? & where would be the best to look for second had decks (Ebay or the local paper etc)

Thanks for any advice you can give me :)

Vinyl is good fun and its really hands on, but ive gotta admit that CD decks are really good these days and it saves a fortune on buying records as MP3s are a lot cheaper. however some stuff u cant get on cd or vice versa.

both are great fun

@ Nursie, those are the exact decks I'm thinking of getting, do you have, or could you take some real-life pics of them, showing the carts as well, if possible please?

They look like damn fine decks, and this might just clinch it for me to buy them :P

Thanks

I had a motor go after 4 months. Even though it was fixed under warranty if i was buying now i would get some technics. I was going to upgrade to techincs myself. Id save some more cash and get some techincs or buy some 2nd hand if i was you.

If you still want some pics ill try and sort them out for you.

Plexman - what s/w do you run on your notebook? i take it you just use the trigger finger to launch loops in something like live right?

and why two mixers?

bloody hell people, spent all that money and then put speakers on cardboard boxes or laying sideways on the table ?

Get some £50 Atacama Stands for them and let them breath for all the good and holy!

I use both traktor and ableton on the laptop. Yes I use the trigger finger to launch loops, samples. Also to adjust things like tempo, effects. Most things in both traktor and ableton can be assigned.

2 reasons for the 2 mixers. Firstly the second mixer you can see is a scratch mixer Ecler Hak 360 and the A & H is no good for serious scratching. Second reason is that me and my bro some times dj together. e.g. one of us mixin and the other one dropping samples, acapellas, scratching etc. This gives us much more control.

I agree. :)

Need to sort my setup out better. In my picture you can't see that the other speaker is on a stand but I do need to get both on stands.

Well I am moving house next week and may well get my speakers up on stands. What do you guys recommend for thois missions that sre laid side ways ?

Cheapest atacama's are £60 not 50, I assume you would be standing in front of the decks though, in which case even 1m high ones would be too low, better off wall mounting them.

Anyway, good to see Lost Witness - Red sun rising peeking though there, I have fond memories of that track, the first trance vinyl I laid my hands on back in the day, brilliant tune :D

Yeah i was thinking of wall mounting them, they are not that heavy so I m open to suggestions.

And behind Red Sun Rising is Happiness Happening..... another cracking Lange Mix :)

My set up, nothing too fancy, does the job. :D

(Mixer position isnt as awkward as it looks! :p )

2 x Citronic PD-1 Mk3 Decks
1 x Numark DM1050 Mixer

Hooked up to a Pioneer VSX 916 Amp and some Wharfedale 9.4s

Really need some bookshelves mounted on the walls!

Play mostly Bassline House / Speed Garage / UKG

'traktor' :p

I like the idea of the jamming sesh's with you and your brother though :D i use live5.2 myself with a korg pad kontrol in a similar way you described.. i don't really play live as such using it though.. and i prefer 1200's and cdj's by far for dj sets

will post pics of my gear when i get around to taking some good pics

Nice one mate, they look rather like Technics in every respect except the name tag lol.

they do too. even the style of the power button and platter! there must be a major copyright issue here somewhere..

the 33/45 rpm are not the same place as technics tt's though

Traktor can be very useful if you use all the features it has. It's very good for acapellas and samples. You can do a lot of improvised on the fly live stuff that you wouldn't be able to do in ableton or with a cdj. I find with ableton it's hard to do a lot of things live without a lot of pre setup and planning.

Also using traktor on a basic level to me is just the same as using a cdj and some times more convenient. Just for reference I don't do any of the mixing in traktor. I have the 2 outputs/decks of traktor go into 2 channels my mixer so again traktor just acts like an advanced cdj.
