Only Mail is running on startup. Other apps such as Cyberduck etc are launched by spotlight.

I'm awaiting mac:Office 2008 but I'm only using it for Word formatting for CVs which Pages fails todo properly so that'll be spotlight launched too. A mate works at MS hence it's discounted heavily

Still prefer Pages though.

There's an option in Onyx to insert spacers in the Dock, or if you want to do it manually have a look here.
