Please dont tell me you chucked that big compaq server at the bottom away?
Ive been looking for one of them for ages :(

Fairly simple. VM 20mb connection > Linksys WRT54GS with tomato firmware. Couple of switches dotted around all 100mb and 5pcs.

Fileserver with 2tb of storage for backup and media sharing. This is actually in a different building with cat5 going to it so that even if the entire house burnt down we'd still have all our data.

Then there is my comptuer for gaming and general use, my brother's pc, parent's pc and a media pc connected to the telly downstairs for HD playback

I used to do all the Cisco at home thing but now a days I can't be bothered. Just run a Sky Netgear wireless router and that's it. Works incredibly well too :)

Well, i thought my first post on here should detail my kit ;)

So here goes:

Core routing:

24 Meg Be* Pro ADSL2 (actual throughput maxes at 1.8 megabytes per second). Handled with Linksys AM200 ADSL2+ Modem in Bridge.

1U 2x PIII 1.4GHz 1GB Ram 2x 18GB SCSI disks in RAID-1
Handles all routing, vpn, firewalling, plus webservers for www.lewty.org.uk and subdomains.
4x NIC (2 on board Intel Pro/100 plus dual port Pro/100 card).
4 Physical interfaces: WAN (direct public static IP), LAN, DMZ (with the wireless on it, only HTTP, HTTPS allowed plus DNS only to the internal DNS server) and spare.
LAN has 8 port linksys SD2008 Gigabit switch.
LAN and DMZ have each a 3COM Superstack Level 2 managed switch.
Wireless handled by WRT54GL with DD-WRT

Interface table on the gateway looks a little like this (apologies for the duplicate eth2 entry, there is also another tun adaptor added to this now)

3x 2048 Bit OpenVPN connections
1x Hamachi Zero-Conf VPN Connection (backup to OpenVPN)
Dynamic routing handled by OSPF
(if this is looking familiar it's because i'm peered with both TRX and DRZ)

Fileserver:
Athlon 1.3Ghz, 1GB RAM, 80GB Boot drive, PCI-X Intel Pro/1000MT server adaptor
Solaris 10
Storage: 8 port Supermicro sata II controller
3x 750GB SATA-II disks, in RAID-Z under ZFS, usable storage ~1.4Tb

VMWare Server:
1U Compaq DL360 (dual 1.4GHz PIII, 1.5GB RAM)
VMWare ESX
2x 73GB SCSI disks
3x Windows server 2k3 VM's for DNS, Domain Controller, Exchange mail server, Incoming/Torrent and Terminal Services.

Trixbox PBX
...lol not worth speccing it's awful...but does the job
Peered twice with VoipTalk for incoming PSTN numbers and TRX for direct dialling of remote extensions

Main desktop:
Athlon 3200+, 2x graphics cards, audigy 2 plat ex, 4x 80gb hds (2 are in raid-0 for editing/video work)
2x 17" Dell Ultrasharps plus 15"
Ubuntu 8.04

2x Cisco 7940 IP Phones configured with SIP
1x Grandstream GXP-2000 IP Phone

Mediacentre
Intel E2180 2x 2Ghz, 2Gb Ram, 30gig HD, tv tuner...etc...Vista Ultimate 32.

Couple of thin clients,
HP somthingorother managed HUB yes HUB! (12 port 2U)
Another 15" tft for servers
Spare server is a Dell Poweredge 2500, 5U, 1.5Gb Ram, 2x 18gb, 2x 36gb, 2x 1.4Ghz
Loads of spare kit, network cards, gigabit cards, modular network cards(!)
WM5 Smartphone
umm...plus my audio kit - active studio monitors, 16 channel mixer, custom built audio router and control.
my normal laptop (Acer Travelmate)

That's all i can think of at the mo...oh no wait....

Car-PC:
Compaq Armada laptop (in the boot with docking station and 300W inverter)
Car2PC adaptor for my pioneer headunit (converts Pioneer CD Changer protocol into USB so track changing the head unit skips in winamp)
Matrix Orbital LCD where the clock used to be in the dash (Rover 25)

There we go, not bad for a first post :D

This was it a couple of months ago:

One Netgear DG834PN wireless router. Directly wired to that is one PC (Cerberus). Wireless connections to the same router from four desktop PCs (Charon, Alecto, Magaera, Tisiphone) and one laptop (Medusa), plus a wireless print server (Netgear WGPS606 - Hermes). Simple really.
