Horizontal stitch, rather than a true panorama, but anyway! made from about 12 shots, and 50 layers! and I had to take a few liberties with perspective.

Have sold 2 canvases already, it looks stupidly good a meter wide!

Is there a certain kind of lens which would be best to use for these type of shots?

It depends what you are going for, but I would say, not really. a lot of Pano-Stitching programs include an option to set your focal length to ensure realistic aspect and geometry. I do mine with my regular Nikon 18-105mm VR, nothing special. :)
