Posture Correctors

another great device, if you have the space, is an inversion table ... had a kettler .. they really change your perspective.
- kneeling chairs, the ones that self equilibrate, feel like flying initially - until you become accustomed ... see earlier posts.

Can you recommend a decent kneeling chair and inversion table?

Thanks jPaul

I read 2 posts on another forum from 2 physicians and both say braces are a waste of money because your muscles will rely on them and thus get weaker.

What I need is something that will FORCE me into the correct position , including my head/neck as well as my back.

I think I'll get one of the d shaped supports to go on the chair as a start

Thanks for the help and for keeping me entertained with laughter

Have you been getting the adverts for them on Youtube? The one where the attractive slouching woman puts one on and all of a sudden she has quite a prominent cleavage? It's probably the only advert where I've not hit the 'skip' button :D
You and me both!
I still watch all the adverts hoping it's coming back on.

Hi all

I am curious, has anyone actually used these Posture Corrector in the past ?
How did you find them ?

I've been tempted by the idea of one, but the physio never mentioned to get one

personally I believe if the Physios that i have seen have never prescribed me one, or told me to get one.
then is it a bad idea to get one ?
surely overtime your body will get used to using these and muscles start to fail so to speak ?

NOTE, NOT A MEDICAL THREAD, just curious to see how people get on with them, nothing more

Mrs Scort is a physio and got me such a piece of kit - basically something a lot like my motorcycle back protector - but it's designed to pull your shoulder blades together and promote better posture - I think it acts as more of a reminder; though the straps can be pulled in tighter etc.

It worked though, I had quite a slouch, but now sit correctly - I no longer use the kit she got me, so I guess it worked. Her tidbit of advice, is to squeeze your shoulder blades together, to help keep good back posture.

Deadlift and squat with correct form and your posture will improve.

I went through something similar to the OP, unfortunately with posture correctors, while seeming an attarctive solution do not really work as you probably have many underlying issues that need correcting to restore you to a good posture.

Jokes aside relating to squatting, try to perform some bodyweight squats with bare feet without rounding your back. See how deep you can get down before something prevents you going any further or you fall backwards - if possible get someone to watch you. I suspect you will struggle, but if you are able to accomplish it try doing it again with your arms raised above your head in a V shape and see where you come unstuck. Hence watch some youtube videos that will recommend the exercises to increase ankle, hip, shoulder, lower back and spine flexibility. You may also need to stretch your hamstrings and quads somewhat but you should get an idea of where you are lacking flexibility and be able to focus.. Work at this every day and I can guarantee if you can get decent form and depth on a squat with your hands held above your head you will not have bad posture.

Sort of related but for sitting I can definitely recommend this, which was recommended by my physio after I had back surgery. It’s a back / lumbar support. Honestly it’s incredible, I’ve been singing about it from every street corner. Perfect!! Only £20ish too.

Make sure you get the ‘D shaped’ one. Has to be that one.

I don't get it, how does it stop you from slouching, it doesn't strap you in so you can continue to slouch away?

Won't work for me, I subconsciously start to move forward by the time I realise my nose is touching the monitor and one hour has passed
I say give it a punt! You can’t rely on any device to make you less of a ‘sloth’ (not intended to be an insult just making a point). Correcting your posture is hard work and requires commitment. It’s only £20 :)

I really do find that brilliant. Only thing to mention is that your monitor will need to be eye level to stop the perpetual slouch. Laptops encourage bad posture so might not work for that. Also, I presume we are talking office chair use.

Yes working from home it's worse because my laptop is low down on my desk so I'm looking down at it it's extremely uncomfortable and my back and neck are killing me

I'm going to get a new chair I think, I'm cheeky and asking my employer if they are willing to contribute now that people are working from home more, if the new chair doesn't come with something like this or have better lumbar support I'll look at buying one of these

Cheers

Second one i bought was a t-shirt by "Pelham and Strutt" https://www.pelhamandstrutt.com/compression-t-shirts-for-men.html

That was much better, as a posted mentioned about, it's a gentle reminder to sit/stand straighter. I found it particularly useful for nights out when i'd be stood for long periods of time and have a habit of hunching over and getting backache.

Interesting! I only have bar stools at home. While this wasn't normally a problem for evening use, I've been working from home since mid-March due to covid and I've been using a bar stool all of that time. So anything back rest-related wasn't going to work for me as the stools don't have back rests, so I think I'll go for what you went for. Do you order the same size that you would for a regular t-shirt or do you order 1 size smaller for a tighter fit?
