BBC News - Homes face winter power cuts in worst-case scenario, says National Grid

How would this affect you and yours?

Are any of you business owners that would have back up plans?

I suspect it will be a lot of worse for countries repaint on Russia.

Would have a big effect at work - we'd have to push the evening shift later into the night, possibly even closing up for some hours in the later afternoon/early evening and either put more people on to prepare stuff for the next morning ahead of time to reduce reliance on systems requiring electricity or bring people in earlier in the morning... which likely wouldn't go down well. Even that would be challenging as so many systems rely firstly on power and the manual processes haven't been practised in a long time - and there is a certain amount of short-sightedness when it comes to the equipment for manually operating machinery and shutters, etc. which has likely been misplaced...

Surely, worst case scenario is Putin launching a nuclear first strike against the UK.

It amazes me how pampered people in this country expect to be. God help us if the war in Ukraine escalates and people are actually expected to fight for their freedom.

There’s always a worse case scenario.

Worse case scenario is I choke on my dinner and don’t see winter.

I’m sure it will be fine - if there are power cuts, we will survive. I’ve got a torch and loads of candles.

Put jumpers on, maybe light a candle. I'm only just under 40 and remember power cuts being just a thing that happened from time to time

But you were a child and did nothing of importance then.

Oh noes...

Oh wait...

I bet if you search you can find similar articles dating back every year since the Internet was invented lol..

Yes there may be a greater risk this year but meh...

So you havent bothered to see why that might have happened and then ignore what is happening with gas now. Storage was the issue then. Now we still have a lack of storage and less gas.

No the worst case scenario is people voting the Tories in again.

There would be no fighting.

I just about remember the cuts in the 70s. I remember them not being particularly pleasant. Even as a preschool infant.

I think nowadays, any blackouts would have a much more dramatic effect on the people's lives, so it wouldn't be a case of put a candle and a jumper on. Plus I think there would be a fair bit of civil unrest. Especially given they're talking about blackouts in "selected areas".
