Potential power outages this winter

How many computers, routers, switches etc in businesses will be failing due to being power-cycled for the first time in years, or the comedy option where config changes were made in memory but not saved to disk, or even worse changed on disk to something wrong but not live until a reboot. Seen all of these scenarios a bunch of times over the years.

I work in a regional office where the computers that control the id badge activated locks on the doors are in another part of the country etc.

They are talking about cuts between 4pm and 9pm - so good luck with no working traffic lights during rush hour.

Hell will freeze over before the center of the universe (London) gets it's powercut. Every town and city north of Reading would be without power for a week before London sees 1 minute of it.

Power goes out in London there will be a higher chance of public disorder
 
OK not read into this are they talking about shutting the lecky off so what the old folk and stuff that rely on pinging for help or even home alarms and stuff. Again maybe I'm wrong.
 
This has remined me of something that happened last year. My 94 years old neighbour (now sadly passed away) and the rest of the town lost Virgin when some guys digging up the road cut though the main connection into the town. Internet and TV services were down for a week. He only had Virgin TV package and at 94 was housebound and just sat in his chair watching TV everyday pretty much waiting to die. I offered to give him an old DVD player we had in the loft but he said it was almost like being back in the war again and so just listened to the radio. I on the other thanked the gods I could use my iphone as a hotspot and so could still get online.
