Consoles should be trying to run 1080p 60fps at the absolute minimum in this day and age.
Nintendo NX might shake things up but Nintendo probably wont go down the horsepower route
What are MS Sony and Nintendo gonna do when everyone has a 4K TV and demand games at native resolutions i wonder.
I think it was on an IGN daily fix video that Nintendo said their next console will be more powerful than current gen systems.

people think sky hd is blu ray quality, etc.
they also think netflix 4k is amazing but it's far from showcasing true 4k as it's so compressed.

I would have thought it would be just like the ps3 and 360 slim versions, I.e. quieter and/or cooler with possibly another price drop.

A ps4k would be awesome, same games but powerful enough to run them in 4k, but game still runs at 1080p on normal ps4.

No chance, perhaps some hardware revisions but nothing that will improve the actual gaming performance.
Never happen. It would alienate the users of the current console which Sony wouldn't be dumb enough to do. (I hope not) Unless they offer the upgraded console for free to all current users lol, also never gonna happen.

Of course the games would work with both revisions - it's an x86 architecture, it'll be like a PC and scale down accordingly

Not the core console, but there has been fairly persistent speculation that the PSVR will have some form of additional processing "box" which I can believe as the technical requirements for a convincing and nausea-free experience are quite high unless GFX are really dumbed down.
Yep your right, this rumour turns up within 2 years of every console, it clearly will not happen and is wishful thinking...to split a user base in such a way would be crazy and even the most die hard's could not justify it,
However Die hard's don't panic they will have you covered with the Ps5 and Xbox next, well until 2 years in and the rumour starts again.
Think its born from the fact that people start to see the limits of a console and want more power, yes they will make a smaller one that's better on power but not a more powerful version of a current console.
Apparently there "Could" be a revised PS4 on the horizon with better internals according to Sony.
Take with a grain of salt but it would be interesting if this was true and if it would spur Microsoft into doing the same thing with the XB1 so hopefully it could actually achieve 1080P 60FPS

I do not understand why people still make this sort of comment. Both the XB1 and PS4 can hit 1080p at 60fps. The devs are just choosing to add more graphical effects at the cost of resolution and/or fps. Even if a PS4.5 got released the devs would still probably make the same choices and so it wouldn't hit 1080p 60fps.
I don't see a more powerful model coming out though. Even if they could scale the games succesfully I think it would anger people too much and put them off Sony. I can see, and expect, a slim/lower power consumption model coming out at some point during the PS4's lifespan though.

it will never happen and what would be the point. Sony are already dominating with the ps4 and you would get so many annoyed people over this. The ps4 has enough power as it is when you look at the quality of some of the games they can produce on it. Just wait till the ps5 for a more powerfull console.

We will get slimmer and refined hardware with perhaps a bump to HD speed for load times, but that's it. I still believe this console generation will be one of the shortest yet though. Now they are on the x86 track, the next boxes can be backwards compatible more easily so less aggro for early adopters.
