Power Tools & General Tools Recommendations & Advice

What model? It's the DHS680 I'm looking at which has the blade on the left.

That's a very good point!
Yep I have the DHS680Z its very good but needs a sharp blade to perform at it's best. I use 5AH Batteries, but it and the grinder i have are the things that put the most load on the batteries. I have only used a non makita battery once and it was in this saw when I was ripping down the shed wall and the battery started smoking and burned out so i would be careful.

I have had two DHS680 saws and they are good saws and definitely worth the money

That's good to know but why have you had two?!

Duly noted on the batteries. I'm a bit of a Makita whore so I've got 4x 5Ah batteries already for my other stuff, I've found the chainsaw and the lawnmower (both 2x18v) put serious load on the batteries and they get quite warm in use.

I am the same I also have the chainsaw but not the mower yet as i have a pertol one. I keep eyeing up the compound slide saw but chicken out at the last minute every time :)

Had one stolen, so I went out & purchased another

@Fireskull how do you find the strimmer and quiklok in general?
Strimmer is great, easy and comfortable to use with the grip and shoulder strap, you'll want an 8 or 12ah battery with it though.
Can't really comment on the quiklok as it's the only attachment I have currently so only put it together once :p I have heard that the Ego Power+ tiller/cultivator attachment might fit or with some modification, tempted by that.

Good to know. I've got a couple of 5ah batteries but I'm sure they won't last long with any quiklok stuff.
Never thought about a battery cultivator. Would be handy for garden borders. I found the link describing the easy mod for getting the ego power tiller to work with quiklok.

Yeah it eats the 5ah's, a bit better with the 5.5ha one, but it all depends on how big your garden is really.
Can you send me the link you found please?? I was reading one on Reddit who said it fit fine then further down others saying it needs modification.

just added a tyre inflator to the list of tools after the wheel barrow was flat and i had to lug a load of wood through the garden to the shed :) should be here monday hopefully.

Agreed on the batteries. I recently got a Makita 2x18v lawn mower and it kept cutting out using the 2x5Ah batteries that I had. They also got incredibly hot during use. I was going to send the mower back as it was essentially useless but I thought I'd try upgrading the batteries instead. 2 x 6Ah (not cheap!) and it works pretty well. Will still struggle with particularly thick/long patches of grass but I can generally manage with it.

I found the same problem of stalling with my Makita 2x18v lawnmower with long/thick grass, clumps seem to build up and jam between the edge of the blade and the housing. To reduce it I keep the blade sharp and spray silicone on the housing and on the guided upflick of the blade which also helps improve the collection of cuttings.

what size mower did you guys get as i have been looking at the 38 and 43cm ones. While also looking at robot mowers :)

I have the Makita 330 single battery lower and it’s been excellent, I have been thinking of moving up to the 432 and assumed performance would be as good if not better given dual batteries.

Would be interested in knowing which models you have, the only time the 330 struggles is long, thick wet grass.

If cut dry and regularly then a single battery will do the front and back gardens which is an approx. a total of 300sqm of grass.

I've got a Dlm382z which is a 38cm mower. I think some of my issues with it struggling is also due to the fact my garden is not particularly level and I was trying to mow quite short so it would sometimes catch the ground

I have the DLM432 which is 43cm and 2x18V. Here it is dwarfed next to the ride-on mower :D.

I thought about getting the metal bodied version of the DLM432 because it would be more robust, but it would also be heavier. Since it's job was to mow where the ride-on couldn't such as inclines I opted for the lighter plastic version.

I bought a 43cm Hyundai mower, does the job but probably the worst mower I have used. Previous mover was a 50cm Husqvarna, I was spoiled by that one I reckon and other mowers seem moderate in comparison.
